That's not at all how it went down though. He didn't test positive until Tuesday of this week and died the next day. The ship had already left San Fran with new passengers plus some of the old for Hawaii, and then left Hawaii returning to SF when he tested positive on Tuesday.

We haven't locked down our cities, and probably won't. We haven't locked down anything, including domestic air travel, and we have an adminastration that is much more concerned with telling the public this is all no whoop, fuck, even a hoax, so that dear leader looks good and gets re elected. We are months behind, say, Italy's response. So, I'd believe her more than whatever the government is projecting.

People who argue that influenza is worse are using a snapshot in time to equate the Coronavirus situation today with the annual infection and death rates from influenza. Coronavirus will not be "gone" through quarantines or restricting travel. Thus the prediction of 30-40% population involvement over time (months? years? no one knows). The numbers below are consistent with what I've seen come out of a forecasting group at JHU. The burden to our heath care system will be a concern. What might change the numbers in the short term are the ongoing clinical trials with the new anti-virals. However, that won't stop the spread, but instead will lessen the hospitalization, ventilation and death rates.
