Chinese Rat Flu
Thanks for asking, ice. As Danno said, doing ok but fighting this thing still. I’m not totally convinced I have it, but mainly only because I don’t seem to have any sort of fever (never checked but don’t feel feverish). Sore throat subsided and came back. Super dehydrated and feels like a dry head and chest cold now for 1.5 weeks. Headache. Super manageable compared to others.
Best wishes nutmeg. I must have missed it but did you actually get a test?

I've read a couple of notes on Vit D having an impact on not only infection, bit symptoms as well.
Valid? Debunked?

If a bunch of burnt out skiers can get concerned, if Summit is on point from day 1, then what the fuck were the people paid doing? And yes, the President, but what about every one else in the chain of command? People paid six figures, with parking spaces at hospitals? County health commissions? Governors? Mayors, FEMA etc.
Meanwhile Wooley is watching Asians buying up all the masks.
Truly unbelievable. I won’t get in the way of anyone bashing Trump. But what happened to all those other assholes with name plates on their doors and pensions.

Listening to Fauci, we need to blow the bridges. People need a no travel ban in NYC. And maybe other cities.

Glad to hear you guys are staying strong.
Have talked to a couple people with it, so far it has been mild for all of them...luckily.
Ran to the grocery store this afternoon. Good amount of TP and Paper towels available here. Still no clorox wipes, very little soap, and absolutely still no chicken or beef. Ground turkey, pork and bison is still available, along with all the breakfast sausage and bacon you could want. Pasta supplies are strong again.
The store had limitations on TP, paper towels and meat. I am still not sure I get the hording of the chicken breast and beef. Chasing that trophy bull in NM last fall and passing on the satellite bulls is hurting right now."We had nice 3 days in your autonomous mountain realm last weekend." - Tom from Austria (the Rax ski guy)

Mofro, Huckbucket, and all the other mags with expertise are better qualified to answer but in a nutshell a virus mutates due to natural selection and predicting evolution is hard. But as long as long our immune system can recognize enough of a mutated virus (maybe 50% similarity?) then we should develop herd immunity.
The main thing is we want to stop the evolutionary process either through containment or with a vaccine. And, FWIW, tests reinfecting primates with COVID-19 indicate we do develop immunity.
When it comes to lethality, the two main mutations we care about are virulence and transmissibility. Virulence is the amount of damage a virus does to its host. The reason why SARS-CoV-2 is spreading whereas SARS was stopped is SARS killed its host too quickly. So if anything, although anything could happen, the virus will evolve to be more transmissible and less virulent—but will likely remain roughly, in effect, as it is now at least in the short term.

What would the Wuhan city council say about that idea?
I’ve got to listen to Cuomo beg for all our medical supplies, and they have not shut down a filthy subway yet?
Complete morons, hall of fame morons.

I get where you're coming from, but what happens if they shut them down? You do realize that all the workers for all the essential things rely on the subway, right? And I'm not just talking doctors and nurses (though it holds true there too) but all the grocery store workers, pharmacy workers, etc. No subway and EVERYTHING comes to a grinding halt, and not just in the "slow the spread" good way.
It's a very tough call, it's certainly not a "wtf morons" decision."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ

Yeah, I'd say public transit is absolutely essential in New York. How could they possibly shut it down and continue to function?
