WTB: Down Lowdown 90, Alien RS 26
I have unstoppable curiosity about this ski. They never pop up used, leading me to believe they are as good as i think. Sell me some, if you don’t use them. I’ve got this quiver spot covered but can’t resist.
If a deal exists on some size 26 Scarpa Alien RS’s, let me know too!

Friendly bump because LD90's are phenomenal - my only complaint is that the bases seam to get damaged easily.
Mall Walker is the only other person I know with a pair, and he loves his as much as I love mine. This year, probably 90% of my touring days have been on LD90's. They're that good.

^ yeah not to pile on, but I'm considering getting a second pair. last season I toured my last I think 40+ days straight on them, and put 200k'+ on them in that season (basically half my season)
there are a few more mags with LD90s, dunno if anyone is willing to part... absolutely worth getting in on the ~september group buy next year.

Yeah, I might have to go that way, loyal following indeed.
Thanks guys!

I just picked up @tgapp's LD 102s last week. I'm trying to decide on binders for them. I can't wait to try a long radius ski.
Based on my experience with my CD 104s and CD 114s, the bases (while they're no way as robust as Praxis/ON3P), are pretty much like my pair of Automatic 109s, possibly a bit thicker as well.
I haven't patched the Automatics in a while, but while giving the LDs some tender loving care this week, the p-tex depth is fairly healthy, so there's that.
So, I'd call them maybe a bit softer than average (like the Automatics), but that's ok, as long as I have a p-tex gun/iron.

Can't say enough good things about my Downs. Hope you find some!
I'm about to list a pair of the 202 SD105s but those are the wrong end of the spectrum for ya.

Bases are fine unless you're shark hunting. Plus who needs pristine bases to ski pow?
I'd sell you mine but I haven't skied them once and I'd feel bad... There's always next year's group buy.
Did they have a set of holes already? 179 cm from a couple years ago? Wonder if they're my old pair, if so the existing holes are for Dynafit Superlite 2.0

Yep, they're your old ones! Friend backed out who wanted 'em, so I sold them to Thom. Mall Walker got your skins (for free) too.

What's the long radius do for how these ski? 41m radius seems like a lot compared to most modern skis.

The idea is that the long radius helps bust thru crud, chop, and breakable crusts without deflecting or hooking, I believe. I've never skied the LD102, only the LD90 - which, at 29m, is shorter though not by any means a short turn-radius ski.
These really aren't skis for carving corduroy, and the long turn radius on the LD90 has never felt like an issue to me. These skis still turn on a dime.

The LD102 in 179 feels like a slightly angry Legend Pro 190. They're really good at going straight considering their size. Deflecting/hooking is a non-issue but they're short and snappy enough that they still wiggle well.
I'd stitch that cut together real quick before you end up with two very short skins... No aquaseal fix on that one!

I have skied the 41m 102L, the 29m LD90, as well as a couple other long-radius skis (~32m Bro and Praxis Wootest). Mostly IMO it makes the skis very not-twitchy, and they handle different types of snow similarly, especially variable snow. The 41m radius is the longest I've skied, and tbh I felt it was almost too long... at roughly 30m, you get all the benefits of not getting hooked much in weird snow, plus you get a little sidecut / different (better) feeling in pow or corn. Any of the skis at that radius just ski more predictably in more types of snow than their shorter-radius counterparts. How well the skis do in crud or chop depends to some extent on the mass/dampness, and the Down skis in question are fairly light, though stiff for their weight. Ymmv of course, but this has been my experience.
That may be beyond my skill level... I was gonna just wrap the seam in the burliest tape I could find...

Thanks, that was what @tgapp remembered. I haven't scoped out hole location/reusability for BSL=293 yet.
Cheapness at the moment probably means I'll mount some Plum Guides, especially since I just learned that neither of the Xenic's toes work with Vipec toes if you want to maintain the same mount position (I was pondering a temporary Vipec mount, until cash permitted a Xenic purchase).
The 41m radius is something I wonder if I'll bond with. I find myself in tight spaces in Colorado, so some wiggle is good ;-)

The LD102 was my couloir and corn ski last year. I wiggled the SHIT out them in all kinds of heinous conditions and tight places. The swing weight is so low (for me, coming from 120 underfoot as a daily driver) that if you get any bit of vertical pop the ski will turn on a dime. The cool thing is that they work at the opposite end of the spectrum and you can let them run at speed and make huge sweeping turns. A very versatile ski really, I only got rid of them because they filled an odd spot in my quiver and I'd rather have a more playful ski in the mid-100s underfoot and downsize a bit more for my corn./steep ski. I replaced them with a CD104L and a LD90 but if I had to stick to a quiver of 2 I'd have kept them for sure (or swapped them for the longer model since 179 feels awfully short).

Thanks for that. I have some CD 104's (not 104 L's), so this will be a good comparo.
That playful comment makes me think that the 104L's might be for me, but the proof is in the skiing.
I'm still sussing out the low/mid-100 spot in my quiver.
For narrower/steeps, I scored a pair of 173 Praxis EXPs from @grinch last Spring. These are a sweet ski that gets overlooked, 'coz it deviates from most Praxis builds - tighter turn radius but still stable in Spring crap, as long as you drive the front of the ski.
