Hooded Merino base layer w/o zip?

Anybody got a line on some available options in hooded Merino wool (with or without some synthetic added) base layer tops that don't have a zip neck? Seems like there are tons of choices for mid layers with a quarter zip but I want a 150-200ish weight base layer. Bonus points for it being on sale! I'd have already bought the fancy patagucci capilene air hoodie if it were not $150 because it appears to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Stopped in to say get the fancy patagucci capilene air hoody. My wife bought me one for Christmas and I love it.

I don’t love the price tag, but it’s just money, right? I’ve spent much more on much dumber things in my time

Check out Voormi (Vroomi!) made here in Pagosa Springs. They produce several weights of hoodies, sans zip. I use the River Run as a base for skiing and motorsickle riding.

They also sell women's clothing, too,, Cruiser in case you role that way.

This thing specs great, but it's so fucking ugly. All of the designs are just the worst. I gotta look cool while touring, otherwise why are we even touring?

Trew used to have a merino/poly blend hooded base layer. Not sure if they still make it or the name. Hood fits nicely under my helmet and neck coverage to the chin

Mons royale has the hottest designs. I have 3 pieces of their base layer which I use all year round for skiing, running, mtb and casually. And Yotei is one of them (but in different color). You should try it.
Lighter weight with mesh back - https://us.monsroyale.com/collection...tech-flex-hood
Midweight with snugger fit and a bit of synthetic - https://us.monsroyale.com/collection...ullover-hood_2 (black color is better imho, but navy color has more photos)

Clearly I’m too lazy and stupid to look at the rest of the catalog. That Olympic looks nice too. How’s the fit? I’m right in between sizes

True to size slim fit for Temple tech and Olympus. Both of them have synthetic in fabric, so they are stretchier than pure merino. I temple tech for touring a lot.

Yotei is not loose, but not tight. I would say regular. Like for resort riding.

I prefer slim fit for touring, coz it's slightly better for moisture management.

This. I bought a bunch of Mons stuff when I was down in NZ last summer and its by far my favorite. Their gridded Merino tech pullover is my go to touring midlayer and I often rock it under a shell while resort skiing. Held up super well to my abuse and is crazy comfy. The only drawback with Mons Royale is the price but Im happy to support a NZ business.

The Mon Royale Yotei Powder Hood rules in my closet, too. Have the green and the black and wear them about 4 days a week, both for skiing and work. The best quality Merino in the business, great attention to detail, tiny stitching and doesn't pill up. Own and wear the non-hoodie version as well.

If you like blue the pattagucci is on sale for $104. I have the hooded and unhooded version and love both.

edit to add that red is also on sale.

How hot do the Cap Air, the Mons, and the others run?

This would be for touring, which usually has me sweating like a pig - long-sleeves only on the way up, plus one very light softshell if its sub 15*F. So, a heavyweight base layer would be too hot. Sorry for the specific question - just trying to figure out how hot these things run!

I've found the Freeride Systems base layer is a great weight as are the lightest long-sleeve merinos. A heavy merino is definitely too warm.

I love the patagucci air hoody but they’re way too long to just wear as a shirt unfortunately.

They design it to tuck into your pants. I think it's a plus, but the metros who want to look cool at the coiffee shop (sic) will disagree. The lack of zipper makes me nervous for spring/warm weather touring, but I like all of the options.

I really like First Lite (hunting brand) merino base layers. During their sales it’s 30-40% off.

MH Diamond Peak is 200 weight merino with a hood. I just ordered one, will post up how it is once I get it, but MH stuff can usually be found on sale a lot of places. Just another data point
