    New Pivot/FKS 18 "GW"

Been out of the loop for a minute, and a search on this topic didn't turn up anything.

It seems like the new P18 "GW" has a alpine and gripwalk (GW) AFD for this season: https://www.look-bindings.com/en-us/...-gw-b115-forza

So is this an actual new AFD or did they just slap the GW label on it and call it good? If it's a new AFD, is there any reason I couldn't purchase a gripwalk AFD from CAST touring and replace the AFD on a pair of older P18s?

Context: I'm thinking about getting a pair of gripwalk boots because plug boots are just a pain in when it's cold. Consider the Shift, but part of me can't give up the trusty P18.

yes, they are different. No you can't put the CAST afd on a stock pair. But apparently your dealer can order the part from Look.

Yeah, what Judo Chop said. The GW AFD slopes downwards, so an alpine boot only contacts at the front, and the contour follows a GW sole. And the Cast ones mount differently.

Its a new AFD, it raised the pedestal a few mm higher off the ski.
As mentioned above the the AFD is set on an angle as per the GW spec's.
Part number is FCIF101, your dealer can order for $20.
Its designed for the new style Pivot toes, but with some razor blade work it can be modified for the older style Pivots.

What screw lengths does it use? The ones for the riser? Or the normal ones?

I would assume the riser kit screws, when I converted a bunch of my P18's to the WTR AFDs I needed to use the loner screws.

Can one still order the alpine AFD? And the right screws? I hate the ramp of the WTR ones

Shop guy told me it was possible to shave down 1-2mm on the back of the alpine AFD to match the GW angle. Legit or no?

    Edit:
Post #58 here is just removing a bit of rubber, not plastic, on the GW sole. Anyone else had success with this?

I did this and it worked just fine, it does put a little up pressure on the toe though . No shop will touch it.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
