20/20 NE - I can see clearly now

65 degrees in January isn't all bad. Is it? The trails are riding nicely, a bit o' mud here and there but otherwise it's all good. I'm lame, no pics

Pretty awesome, it barely dropped below 60° here overnight. That would have made for prime riding conditions if it hadn't rained almost 1/2". Hopefully the sun and wind dries it out enough to get out this afternoon while it's still so warm.

Fat biking in N. Vt was actually pretty good today under the evergreens. Frozen ground and enough grip to ride everything. No pics from me, either. Too much fun riding!

Before the bridge our line was thru the water. The water is deep, but we have a rock road underneath, which is far from smooth, and then a punchy up. The up on lookers right was buffed out by someone who cut saplings and bushes. The original line was a tight lookers left. Was about and 80% fail rate. Since the bridge, this line became a dam from beavers and random debris, but that flood cleared it out making it rideable again. Fun to bring the old lines back into play.

We added more new to the network this weekend. Two additions...maybe .2 or so. Every little bit adds up

NJ area was great this weekend, a bit of extra mud but only in the places that are always muddy, good stuff.

Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

    I can't see clearly now...

Damn, 2 days of fog has everything soaked and slick. This is no way to run a midwinter thaw with no snow on the ground.

Back to frozen ground here with a micro dusting of sleet and freezing rain. Not a great winter here so far for snow sports but fat biking is keeping me sane...

^yeah, someone just sent me that link.

So when a mountain biker flying along a trail at 25mph tells someone on horseback to “get off the trails”—and that horseback rider just happens to be the landowner, as Hansbury recounts by way of example—it’s an egregious violation of that landowner’s good faith, and one that has an outsized impact....

....And while that new bike may smooth out the terrain or help you rail that corner, no amount of suspension is going to help you with the most technical obstacle of all: human interaction.

Just sold my fancy one and replaced it with a used Surly Wednesday, couldn't be happier to have $1000 bucks in my pocket and still have a fat bike.

I mean how could I live without one?

Yeah, rigid and simple seems the way to go. Tires seems like where you wanna spend your $$ with fatties. Cruised the Fat thread the past fewweeks and learned a lot. Most important lesson learned: buttahflake rocks hip hop boots when he fat bikes- homeboy could open for Wu-Tang in those bad boys.

^^ especially studs here in NE. Big investment but cheaper than breaking a hip.

Everything else that's needed is about staying warm, which skiers have piles of already.

Indeed- shoulder is getting better, but I don't need any Nestea plunge type fall/impacts any time soon. Most of the bikes I'm looking at come spec'd with tires that can be studded too, so there ya go.

And of course "got the Timbos on the toes, and this is how it goes..."

Studs can f u over too. It's a tricky game if you're riding granite on studs. Around here the consensus is that everybody needs two wheelsets ready to go. One studded and one rubber depending on conditions. And sometimes run stud up front and rubber out back. Nobody I know has two sets, but it's nice to dream.

Yeah the best way to do it is 2 wheelsets. I blew up the hub on my old wheels so need to rebuild it with a new hub I have on my bench and that'll be the studded one, the carbon wheels will be unstudded and I might even go with a 4.0 on those rather than the 4.6's that'll be studded.

Talk about hero dirt, I found miles and miles of it today After the mudfest we had on Sunday it was a nice change. Lotsa rox too Click image for larger version.
