Got out both yesterday and today for more legit riding on the new bike. This thing rips. It climbs really well...much better than I was expecting. I still need more time on decent downhills but it’s been a blast!

Any New England gravel grinders have insight into finding class 4 roads? I’ve looked through tue Gazetteer, town highway maps, gravelmap.com, but I know I missing some.

ChittCo specific would he a good place for me to start.

Not sure how GIS savvy you are but you can download this as a shapefile and filter the data by either surface type if you want all gravel, or by class if you just want class 4 roads.

Edit, now that I look at it a bit more, you can do the filtering by surface or class before downloading, so even if you don't have a proper GIS on your computer, you can download as a KML and open in Google Earth.

If you can't figure it out with the Gazetteer I would suggest sticking to pavement. The Gazetteer was our bible in the 90's for long sufferfest MTB loops.

Lol, one issue re 4th class roads in C County is that the urban sprawl has consumed a lot of them and they are renamed as subdivision roads, driveways or upgraded to 3rd class to feed subdivisions

Thanks. I think you recommended that in the past. I’ll see what I can find.

VT-F may be right. ChittCo may just have a lot less than my old haunts in SVT.

20/20 NE - I can see clearly now

Any southern NH mags know the situation with whether or not there are parking issues at fort rock? I know Stratham has their lots closed except to residents. I couldn’t find the info online

You can use this page to filter by county: https://vtrans.vermont.gov/content/p...s/highway-maps

This site looks pretty useful, too: https://vermontroads.net

Not much Class 4 in Chittenden County. Underhill looks like it has the most, about 6 miles.

I've been enjoying how traffic thins out once you get south into Charlotte.

Thanks. That vermontroads.com site looks helpful and easy, although I recognize some marked class 4 have been upgraded and are now gravel.

Thanks. Gave it a shot today and had a blast. I haven’t been in forever and am already looking forward to going back.

I kept to the south side of 101. Next time I’ll explore the other side.

Sweet! We call that old greenhouse/farm fort20. That's Xlr8 and was super fun, but my bud who built it didn't realize the clay content in the soil. Poor trail is kind of a mess. You probably rode X trail which is one of the best. Boulder Dash is brand new over there also...like 2-3 weeks old.

The other side is faster and less tech but a ton of new also. I'm currently building over there.

You know, some how I missed the stuff over by the X trail. I think I missed the connection. It was pretty easy to get turned around. Tell your bud he did a great job on xlr8... it was a challenge but really rewarding. I am stoked to see what you’ve been building on the other side.

Yeah, X is great tech. There is, like a lot of stuff on the coast, dbl tracks that can make navigation a bit of a pia.

I haven't built anything in Exeter...well, I just started helping with one, but others have built a bunch new. More flowy easier stuff on that side. The one we're building will be more like the Exeter side. Rock drops and steep climbs. Might not want a hardtail for that stuff.

We do have another spot that is all tech where I've built the most. It was kinda-sorta posted, but everyone is still going. The woman who posted is a biatch and the realty trust she works for doesn't own all the land, so we are still hitting it.

Let me know when you're down this way and we can maybe ride.

I imagine this thread is slow because everyone is riding, right? Nice stretch of weather lately. Barely cracked 70 the last couple days.

After wrapping up my ski season on Sunday I am all in on biking now.

Short 4.5 mile 1050' backyard heart rate push

Bit of rain to settle the dust this am.
