Precision lost in lightweight alpine boots

I've tried on and skied a few different lightweight boots recently including the SMax, Promachine, Nexo Lyt, and Hawx Ultra. In all of these boots I notice the shell expanding underneath the instep buckle when flexed hard. Of course this makes that area of the boot wider and some precision is lost. I never noticed this in previous boots. Has it been happening all along and I just haven't noticed? Or is something that we are sacrificing with all these new lightweight alpine boots? It seems hardly anyone makes regular weight alpine boots aside from their race line-up.

Redster club sport, head raptor RS, technica Mach1, Lange RS are all non-plug heavy boots?

But they all expand under the instep buckle to some degree, that is how an overlap boot flexes.

At some point, you're still engaging the small stabilizing muscles in your feet. Just sayin' ;-)
