Nice brown swimmy! Big bugs are over this way as well but seems the boat hatch is thicker. We had some up top but nothing crazy. My wife watched some dude try the lean back instead of ducking under the bridge and fell out the raft. She did say he kept the beer high and recovered pretty quick. Ha.

2020 FISH SQUEEZING EXTRAVAGANZA!!
Managed to get over to a TN tailwater today..early start, racing the planned generation. Thought about skipping to behind the pulse release, but dark clouds were looming....quite the sketchy drive back over the mountain to NC. Hail, and some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever driven in.. good to get over there though. I don’t take many photos, but grabbed a couple of this lil,guy...fished at him for at least a half an hour till I won.
Nothing major was done or had, other than regaining some sanity..
Nice man came floating through on a SUP.
man: “you caught any?”
Me: “a couple, missed a few, one broke me off”
man: “you got any split case nymphs?”
Me: “ I don’t, ‘Dry or Die’...”
man: “ that’s my number 1 fly...hope you tear them up”
Me: “Thank you Sir!”
He was probably right..but I stick to my guns..

Lexi- pretty much all those except I havent spent much time on BF. Make it back to SW montana quite a bit too.
Took wife's friend out who has been here 4 yrs and never floated or caught a trout. She caught a few on the spinner including this pig....
Was pretty breezy sat but at least it was mostly a tailwind. I tried to chase it down but we had a hat casualty. Oh well that happens when you wear a Vikings hat in a bears boat.

Good to see you’re getting out, LB! Hope you guys are well up there. No spring lax so we didn’t get up there. Maybe a day later this summer is in the cards!

SH or W (so long as we are doing code here)? Looks like maybe SH just around the corner from the launch downstream of the weir in pic number 1.

2020 FISH SQUEEZING EXTRAVAGANZA!!
UPDATE: ......$500 fine....
Legit question: the Feds confiscate snowmobiles if they enter Wilderness, why aren’t they confiscating the helicopter ? (see 2nd link)

Oh, it would be so unfair to these pillars of our community to take away their helicopter - perish the thought!
I realize that fines are what they are and can't arbitrarily be made to account for high income/wealth, but man, this is less than a slap on the wrist for these clowns.

Me and the Mrs. took off for a few days. Here are a couple pics.
Started off the trip by heading up one of my favorite trout streams.
Continued on to on to a pretty special place.
We set up camp on the lake.
As usual, I got up early and caught the sunrise.
The fog created weird light giving the place very much a peaceful feel.
Fog burned off and we hiked around the lake. Just an incredible setting
This was not really a fishing trip but we did check out a few of the streams. I will be back when I have more time to commit to exploring this one. Not sure it gets any prettier.
Next, we packed up camp and headed deeper into the mtns to one of my favorite car camping spots in the state. Wildflowers are just starting to pop.
The camping here is primitive, private, offers decent fishing, and incredible scenery.
All good here
This stream is mostly pocket water but it does mellow out in sections. We are just coming off run-off and while it is still high, viz was good. I also love how green things are right now.
This might be my favorite car camp spot in the country.
Stoke is high

With all the fkn stoke on here I broke down and ordered a 5 weight to mess around with panfish and to fish out west during elk season and spring ski trips.
Til then I'll still drag and snag on the big lake

Killer day.
When you wake up to this, anything afterwards is pretty much house money.
This moose was right outside my camper door this morning.
My crew for the day.
The hatch has been very spotty up to this point. But we did see a few more bugs today.
Fishing the hatch on this river takes a bit of skill and persistence. Anyone can flip a dry fly around and get a drift. But to get to the bigger fish you got to be able to make accurate casts to extremely tight lies on cut banks with a fast current and moving boat. It can be tricky but is also what makes it so much fun.
I have a steelhead buddy visiting from Washington. This is a different game for him. Thankfully he has a good attitude, is open to coaching, and doesn't get offended when the peanut gallery chimes in to tell him how bad his last cast was. Today he had numerous eats but couldn't keep 'em buttoned up. he stayed persistent and finally got one in the net.
I spent most of the day on the sticks but managed to find a few during our wade sessions.
Just a fun day fishing one of the most famous hatches in the West.

Nice job. I'd be pretty surprised if we havent run into each other. You seem to go close to my old rotation. Not many fish but every day on a beautiful lake with the dag is a positive in my book. Last weekend to float/fish my new local so I'll be getting really high and dropping the raft.
