Fun weekend of fishing and camping with the s.o. Man the river is in great shape right now. Water is up but cooler temps have stalled runoff and the color is awesome.

    1 bump, 2 bumps.

Kirby decided to paint his face in goose shit before going fishing.

I love camping right on the river, getting up early, and watching the sunrise.

    All good.

    2020 FISH SQUEEZING EXTRAVAGANZA!!

Headed north for a central WY solo mission. Sure felt good to get out, sleep under the stars, and squeeze a couple. Gravel rig makes a nice shuttle vehicle

strategic sortie (3.5 hours including the drives) between a socially distant lunch with mother in law and drinks on the porch with my mom yielded a 17 inch creek smallmouth. 50 foot wide stream, a 6 weight and this guy combined for some fun.

    2020 FISH SQUEEZING EXTRAVAGANZA!!

Non-resident reservations are being purged from the WYSP system. Luau spot has been rescinded by the overlords.

State Parks To Open Camping to Residents May 15 - Wyoming State Parks will partially reopen to camping for Wyoming residents beginning May 15. State Parks has remained open to day-use recreation but closed to camping due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The busy camping season unofficially starts Memorial Day weekend; however, we are excited to announce that we have been working with the Governor’s office and the State Health Officer to get Wyoming residents camping in just over two weeks," said Darin Westby, Director of Wyoming State Parks & Cultural Resources. The decision to reopen out-of-state visitor camping will be continually reassessed by State Park management, and a future plan will be submitted to the Governor and State Health Officer as camping begins to open in surrounding states.

To ensure the safety of our visitors and staff, and in an effort to open parks to camping as quickly as possible, all camping will now require reservations. Not all campsites will be available due to designed social distancing. This will also ensure that only in-state residents can make reservations, provide instant communication through information on the reservation, and reduce cash handling by staff. The reservation system also decreases the stress of not knowing if you have a campsite to stay in before you leave your home.

Sites will not be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can still secure a spot without a prior reservation but must do so through the reservation system upon arrival. For the safety of our staff and visitors, fee booths will remain closed and fee compliance and reservations will be verified by law enforcement.

Additionally, according to the approved plan, only single-unit campsites will be made available. Per Wyoming State Park Rules on camping units and COVID-19 guidance, no more than 10 persons per site will be allowed.

Nice day out, lots of wind out of the east in the sound so instead of trolling in the Gulf and casting for Pompano I stuck close to shore in the bay/sound and tried to avoid the wind.

Ended up snagging a Red Snapper in ‘14 of water trolling the flats for Flounder, WTF, Snapper are reef fish guess this guy just needed to get out of his old neighborhood.

Run off is underway so I headed up to one of the great tailwaters of the Rockies. It is also ground zero for the real Montana Trout Bro scene. The town was packed. Few have ever seen a gathering of so many beards, Yetis, hoodies and puffies. It was a who's who of the headiest trout bros from Montana and of course I had to get right in the middle of it.

Nymphing was solid the first couple of days. Sow bugs and small mayfly nymphs fished 4-6' deep were the ticket. Few blue wings and march browns on the surface but didn't really get into much of a dry fly bite. That was a little disappointing as it was the primary reason we were there. Oh well, whatever.

Once you get away from the scene, it really is an incredible tailwater.

    Trout bums sleep in tents.

Camp fishing is so much fun.

Swimmy, that is a classic western tailwater for sure. I always enjoy my time there. Looks like you had a prime camp spot right in town.

I had a quiet day on a different tailwater. Did have to let one party play through. No other humans seen.

Ha. Was up there fishing thurs, swimmy, and town wasnt too bad. There were only a couple campers at town. Got the legs nice and burnt before having FWP roll on us in one man catarafts complete with scoping out the boat with binos. Also first time not having my liscence on me in 22yrs(phone dead and I have no printer with the change this year). Multiple locals were heading out for Smith trips. Might do some float camps at those two popular lakes this weekend. Nice pics guys!

Nice pics swimmy. I was in the general neighborhood Saturday, closer to the mountains. Only caught one fish but the scenery and weather were fantastic.

    2020 FISH SQUEEZING EXTRAVAGANZA!!

Nice work MT crew. Drove 500miles on 90w yesterday. From Billings to Three Forks I saw at least 60 drift boats and rafts on the road. FAS were firing too. Hope the afternoon floats were fruitful!

My buddy who guides said the Madison was so busy this weekend it was almost unfishable. Not that it was that much better before but Covid has kind of fucked us. Unfortunately it will only get worse.

Meanwhile I decided to go ahead and post up in an attempt to find solitude before it gets rowdy this weekend. So far so good.

If your governor doesn’t lift the 14 day mandatory quarantine for non-essential humans then you are correct. Guides can’t fill boats with no out of state guests. The reports are begging for clients. It’s awful. Main St was DEAD for noon on Sunday in May. Jam! had a crowd and a few other restaurants had patrons. Retail shops were dead.

Billing’s appeared to have the start of night life downtown for the restless natives while travelers moving all earthly possessions were just looking for restaurants to feed their families. Americans doing their best to keep the economy going. Truck drivers are all over the road coasting between lanes. No doubt they are truly exhausted and the lack of eating establishments to sit down in and enjoy a meal and fellowship out of their cab is taking their toll. Good luck trying to find a place to take a piss and not be looked at like a leper.

Enjoy the quieter waters and may we all become essential to the survival of one another...

End thread drift. No fish were harmed in this road trip. No gear was traveled with either. Legs were stretched and an enlightening conversation was had with a rancher. He claimed their were fish and dropped some other terms while pointing out some landmarks. I thanked him for the maintained access. Click image for larger version.

"So that is the good end of our daily blog here in downtown Craig. And of course the lifting of the 14 Day Quarantine June 1st. That is the best good news in the past couple months!"

Montana's mandatory 14-quarantine for out-of-state travelers will also expire June 1.

I missed a photo on one...as I was using the forceps to remove the hook, I could see a tail down his throat...greedy little dude

[ETA]I guess the tail was fanned in that first pic in the mouth. Here is a cleaner look (but the tail is pointed in this one)
