Snowing hard throughout the day. Up Connaught. Snowing so much it makes Revelstoke insanely great again.

Happy new year from Revelstoke! May the powdery nano dust of frozen unicorn santorum quadruple overhead blower pow spray gloriously in your faces all evening long!Name: FB_IMG_1577855198907.jpeg

Ah, that ones on the list. Havent gone down lookout west. I like glacier crest to ravens. Lookout is much more enjoyable climbing though.
    That chute pic(nickys?) looks sweet!

    45cms in 24 hours.

Biggest athletic endeavour of the day was shovelling out then getting out all the way from the Monashees to the SelkirksClick image for larger version.

Chute's unnamed. It collects wind loaded snow from SW so we figured it'd be good to go plus has a nice convexity to cut and test before dropping in.

We were thinking of going back up to do Ravens proper but the storm kept building

It was right before opening. Big line first thing this morning; biggest of the season. But the lines on the mountain weren't do bad... likely due to the mid gondola breaking for 45 minutes at around 9:45... Anyone skiing mid mountain or trying to come up would have been stuck down there,.

Yesterday was one for the books. I got lucky by staying up high yesterday. My intention was to ski Banker laps, but that was closed, so I went to the Ripper instead, where it was empty. Went back to the Stoke for a few laps before catching the rope drop on Separate Reality, then got in four laps through Kill the Banker and Conifers of Gnarnia before calling it quits.

Average assessment for a single family home in Revy is now over $500,000, per BC Assessment. In reality, there's not much decent on the market for under $600K. But that's probably still cheap by Lower Mainland standards

STRONG BUY. Sad to say because North Van is so expensive I look at Revy and see bargains.

Took a look there this summer.
    All over-priced.
Unless maybe if you buy a property and build it yourself on the perimeter (dwindling choices).
Alternatives? I'd say that Golden is the exact opposite. Golden seems to have been overlooked for a while now.

Took advantage of RMR's high alpine lifts to find scraps of pow following the previous days 46cms nukeage. Success!

Golden is not the place to be. It's apparent that Revy is where it's at. Great restaurants, great coffee, great resort and great snow. No need to come here.

sarcasm aside, what is so great about revelstoke? i've been twice and both times found the mountain pretty underwhelming. lift serviced alpine is all short shots, lot of traversing to get back.. i didn't explore slackcountry though. kicking horse despite it's wonky lift setup had endless steep chutes with big open runouts.. and the slackcountry also looks endless. maybe i got lucky, we had 20cm at kicking horse.. does revy just get way more snow to make up for the less interesting terrain? i wouldn't write home about either town

Touring imo is where it's at for both RMR and KHMR.

The people in both towns are also a tight pretty awesome community.

Revy has a bit more non sled accessed terrain. Both towns have tons of sled access.

Kicking horse also gets much less snow then Revelstoke prolly 300m less on average annually and has very little in the way of tree/glade skiing. Kicking horse has more alpine terrain. I would call revelstoke's terrain more interesting if you know where to go.

Kicking Horse is better for steep alpine terrain. Revelstoke is better for tree skiing and pillows. The best skiing in Revy is from the top of the gondola down to the day lodge, but there's generally only a short window every winter where it's good skiing all the way.

Pretty much nailed it but to those who know East Revy has epic tree skiing and epic pillows too!

Honestly I'm trying not be dickish or all douchebag local especially since I'm not a local but what you said, what Alex said and what Kulharin said (I would call revelstoke's terrain more interesting if you know where to go) is so true. Both RMR and KHMR are the tip of the iceberg. There's lifetimes of exploration

Lee, you could say the same about KH. If you know it well top to bottom there is a lot of interesting skiing. KH has a lot less friendly terrain. It all pretty steep, rocky and the trees are generally tight unless you know the spots. I spend 90% of my time on the upper mtn.
    I like huge dumps.
