So I thought I won the lottery when I scored 3 pairs of P18 GripWalk AFDs to upcycle my old pivots. They just don’t fit.

Do these only fit newer vintage P18s?

Thanks, that was what I assumed.

I’ll be unloading Pivot parts & AFDs shortly.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

IIRC it's an easy mod (30 seconds with a razor blade/Stanley knife) to get the new AFD's to fit the older P18's.

You need to trim about a mm off the underside of the retaining hook on each side to give more clearance for the base of the binding to seat within it. Or even removed them completely as they have no real purpose.

As mentioned above with the razor there are also two tabs inbetween the to rear screw holes that need to be removed for the base to seat properly. Heat a razorblade and they will cut like butter. Additionally, as spyderjon mentioned, the retaining tabs/hooks, might need to be altered too.

I'm pretty sure the two tabs in between the rear screws don't need to be removed as they'll seat within the long rectangular notch in the underside of the base of the binding.

I put the new AFDs on some blue Pivot 15s, no problem.

I have some FKS155 toes which I thought were the same at P18s and P15s (all metal, just Rossi's din 15 version).

I've got the P18 GW AFD, I have cut the tabs down a little. Not completely happy with the result so far, the stand height of the toe is my worry. I have attached a shot of a GW sole on my Tecnica boots. If the AFD is in contact with the boot sole, the toe isn't engaged in the Y direction.

Were the P18 and P15 metal bases any thinner than the FKS155 ?

Phil, how did your conversion fare ? Was the gap between AFD and boot sole ok ? If I have the toe engaged vertically with the toe then the AFD isn't in contact. Any chance you could measure the thickness of the toe plate ?

tjb, from memory it doesn't look like the metal toe binding base is sitting low enough within the AFD.

Agreed, just looked at my 155s, and yours need to drop down a bit.

Given the thickness of the new AFD vs the old I don't see how they can ? Have you managed the conversion with your 155s ?

I haven't, I'm using the original base and afd.
