Jackson 77/78 VW 412 Wagon
I apologize for the lack of rad deep powder stoke but my dad brought some slides over tonight and they are kind of fun. Pictures are of the projected slides. This was the last year of our VW 412 as the family truckster. My dad loved the rear engine air cooled beast but the automatic kept imploding and it was a $500 fix every time so he sold it the next summer for another wagon. Needless to say it was near impossible to get it stuck with snow tires and the trunk loaded. It also had the cool front trunk, so it had a ton of room. I think the skiing was okay that winter but I'll admit the details are a little fuzzy.
The VW in the lot in front of the old clocktower.
Snow King.
My sister and I. RIP big sister.
Up by Yellowstone at or near the winter closure.
Sister and I at the elk preserve.
We were an all Rossi family at the time.
On the way home we stayed at the Meadowlark Ski lodge in the Big Horns. I remember it was like -40. So cold my old man brought the battery inside that night because he was afraid the car wouldn't start in the morning. The cabin was only 45 degrees inside.
When the car started in the morning, my mom broke out the huge bottle of cheap wine she brought with her.
Cheers. This crew will be back in Jackson Hole in March with my 18 VW wagon. My dad is tired of fixing shit and driving a Sienna.Last edited by uglymoney; 12-29-2019 at 06:19 AM.

My old man.
The next few pictures are from 73-74. The VW was brand new, we didn't start skiing till the next winter, so this was kind of a recon mission for us since we were a bunch of jongs. I think we drove to JH from Iowa, then down to Steamboat, then Vail, and Aspen before heading back home.
Anvil Hotel Parking lot
I think this is Jackson but not 1000%.
We made our way down to Steamboat Springs where my dad took this picture.
Then farther south to Vail.
Through Glenwood Canyon when it was still a 2 lane highway.
Ajax. All pictures were with an Olympus SLR and prime lenses.
Looking back at Aspen with Highlands and Ajax in the shot I think.
Eisenhower Tunnel when it was still just one tunnel.
More VW Wagon Stoke from the North Shore of Lake Superior just south and west of Grand Marias. My sister and I.

Cool shots. They remind me that it’s well worth the trouble to stop and take family pictures and to bring them out and enjoy them every so often.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

Very cool.
So the recon mission... Your parent were just like... let’s get in the car and go see what this whole skiing thing is all about?

Super powerful. Very cool.
I think the gas station is Jackson. There was a Amaco station on N. Cache where the Historical Society is now.

Thanks guys. With your info and looking at googles I think that shot was taken from our room at the Anvil, thus the perspective, and I can't think of any other reason my Dad would have taken the picture other than to show the view out our motel window.
