A couple weeks ago I did my early season circumnavigation of Wolvering cirque. Parked at Alta, went up and over to Brighton, stayed as far off the groomers as I could on my way to Lake Mary (probably still on Brighton-leased land but away from things people ski), then over to the top of Supreme. An Alta patroller asked me to go back the way I came since they were doing avy control all over Catherine's area and didn't want goobers getting blown to pieces. Dude was extremely annoyed with me and very defensive when I asked him where he'd like me to drop, as if he was ready for me to argue about my right to be there. I had to clarify that I had no intention of skiing closed terrain just because I had marched myself up there on my own power. He told me he's had several negative interactions with bc bros who felt they had a right to ski whatever they wanted, closed or not, because they hadn't ridden the lift and didn't have to follow the resort rules...
I like running a couple groomers early season but not enough to pick a fight with a patroller or dodging bombs on my way down. I would have felt the same way had I paid for the right to skin around the resort.

This uphill skiing open resorts is about as stupid as sleeping on the roof of your car. The reason for touring gear is not to go to the resort. Resorts should charge them as much as a lift ticket. These people are coming to use their avalanche control, grooming, parking lot, bathrooms.

When I worked at JH Aviation, Dr. Fleck would often fly his Mooney down to Afton without even sweeping the snow from the plane, let alone de-ice. Dude had large testes! I always wondered about his common sense though.

And that bothers you as an individual, why? Are you the majority owner of a resort who feels that you're being stolen from?
I would rather deal with people skinning than people on snowboards, but that's just my $0.02.
I have no opinion one way or another about resort skinning, but I do find the vehemence of some people's reactions to it funny.

Back in the days when Alta allowed uphill access, we used to skin up the resort regularly around full moons with libations of the legal and illicit varieties. I will unapologetically state that there are few sensations more sublime than carving perfect slalom radius trenches in fresh corduroy under a full moon with a bunch of boomers coursing through your system. I recall multiple occasions where I had to stop because I was laughing so hard I was crying and couldn't see shit.
Then I did a bit when I could walk out of my office in my AT boots and be skinning in 4 blocks. It was nice to have a full time job that came with a ski locker.
Now I'll occasionally go skin a lap or two at Hyak after work, because sometimes working out indoors isn't as appealing as breathing fresh air (well, as fresh as it can be with a huge interstate right there). It's a nice option to have when I don't want to deal with much complication and just want a cardio-induced endorphin hit.
Can't say I've ever skinned in-bounds while the resort was open for the day for lift-served skiing though.

It doesn't really bother me that people want to hike uphill, inbounds, while lifts are spinning.
But I'm completely baffled by it. Especially when there's perfectly good, entirely safe mellow pow skiing that's just off the side of the resort. But hey, more pow for me.

Sure. But if abject misery in search of fitness is their goal, it seems possible to achieve that in a location that has the side benefit of a fun descent. Or they could just nordic ski and get all the misery on far cheaper gear and not have Texans flying past them at 50mph.

Its frickin huge here. We literally have hundreds a day.
Im pretty pleased by the Aspen Ski Co rules. On the whole theyre reasonable and sensible.
Id estimate at least 60-70% of uphillers, are women.

Nobody has brought up dogs yet, eh? I know several people who have had negative interactions with dogs over the past 2 years skinning evenings at ABasin and Loveland, and even more negative interactions with the owners of said dogs. Not to mention the piles of dog shit that get left on the groomers for everyone to dodge the next morning. I'm all for allowing uphill access, and for charging a bit for it, but can we get rid of the dogs?

Kind of mind blowing how big its gotten here in just the last 5-7 years. The scene at Buttermilk got so big they had to embrace it just to get some control, (and make some more money so they dont have to start charging) with the uphill breakfast and full moon dinners.

Clearly a privilege. I think it’s reasonable for resorts to require a day ticket or season pass for uphill travel on days the resort is operating. This should also include entering the ski area boundary. Also not unreasonable to require all up-hill travel to be on designated routes or completed outside of operating hours + a 30-60 minute buffer window; IE no touring between 8:30-4:30 for an area which is loading lifts from 9:00-4:00.
No dogs on days the resort is operating.
Restrictions for avalanche control is a no brainer.
