Maryland Riding?
So, it looks like I have to be at a shindig in Gaithersburg, MD, the first weekend of August. (Big family reunion type thing).
Anyhoo, what’s good?
Trailforks shows a bunch of stuff up in Frederick, anyone ridden up there?
Anyone wanna rally and get some riding in?
What’s the ‘best’ in MD?
(Willing to travel a bit for the goods, maybe up to an hour away?)
This looks promising.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, Stokesville is ~2 hours. I’d be happy to show you around if I’m available. Well worth the extra hour (each way) if you can pull it off.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Fredneck water shed is the best but its a no go zone in hunting season.
You can still ride Gambrill state park which is next door and no hunting.watch out for snakes

Frederick Watershed is your best bet for a "big" ride close to you.
Stokesville and the GW National Forest is the real deal if you want to commit to an overnight trip (it's a long drive from you) or a long day. Timber Ridge to Wolf Ridge Trail is a great shuttle lap, or a long-ish climb up a paved road to get to the top of the singletrack. Narrowback Mountain is good too.
Fountainhead and Meadowood are about 45 mins to 1 hr south and are worth hitting both in a day. They are the best trails in that part of the DC area. Well built and fun trails for what they had to work with - fast, rolling XC with some decent jump lines, rock gardens, and wooden features. Also checkout Wakefield in VA - you'd pass by this on the way to Fountainhead and Meadowood.
I think you'll be there after this event is over (pretty sure it is over 4 weeks in July), but Wednesdays At Wakefield is a super fun event filled with stoke, people hanging out and tailgating afterwards.

I'm not too familiar with the trails in MD but if you want to gallivant around the dirt/grassy/hidden areas of DC, let me know. Nothing particularly challenging but I know a few places that are fun and mostly empty when DC is mobbed. If we get a group together up in MD, I might be down to make the trip.
Fountainhead in VA may be worth checking out as well.
