Peloton stock drops after uproar over holiday ad we all hated during Thanksgiving weekend
Peloton Defends 'Misinterpreted' Controversial Commercial as Stock Falls 9 Percent in One Day
If there is one thing the Internet has brought home it is the fact that no matter how you see things there is someone (sometimes lots of someones) who see things in a totally different way and/or have/had a different experience. From the 2nd linked above linked article:
However, Peloton also shared a series of emails with PEOPLE from customers who reached out to say they supported the ad.
One woman named Melissa shared a story about her sister-in-law who had been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She said that the bike had been her sister-in-law’s “saving grace” through treatment.
In another email shared with The New York Times, a 60-year-old woman named Tami said she felt that the commercial shared an important message about health.
“I can relate to her being surprised she did it for a year,” she wrote, according to the Times. “Bad health comes in all shapes and sizes. Glad you acknowledged that EVERYONE needs to be healthy regardless of how you look.”“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

Do you think the ad would have had such a parochial backlash if they had a fit androgynous person working their tail off and selfie-ing for a year?
Like say, Bowie?I still call it The Jake.

No ad, for any product, that primarily consists of self-vlogging should ever see the light of day.

Real Peleton Xmas commercial
What’s funny is that I know tons of people with a peloton and have never seen any of them post about it on social media. Even my friends who are “very online” types.
So the whole selfie thing is another annoying part of it. They are trying to speak to “millennials” instead of you know, talking to actual millennials who are mid 30’s and busy with kids and work and life bullshit. It adds to the fakeness of the whole commercial.
Sounds like a fun party

Oh shit, this is like politics. Just saw a commercial where four or five people are all giddy that the GAVE THEMSELVES A BUICK SUV for Xmas. "Self Santa" was the phrase used. Really. It can get worse.
