Mhm now closed for the rest of the day. No night skiing. Tomorrow's forecast winds are comparable to today's.

Was OK at Bach. Medium density snow, high density people. Thursday was better. Let’s give tomorrow another chance. Snowfall from 6-noon will be prolific.

‘‘Twas the right call to earn the turns today. Four laps of Bottomless untracked in perfectly spaced, 35 deg pitch old growth trees. Lots of sluff on the steep pitches, one small storm slab cracked on a rollover. Great stability given all the recent snowfall.

7am is the new 8am. It's a bummer people are becoming wise to the parking lot shuffle.

Lots of stupid people out there too. 10 minutes in line for me to pull into hrm at 745am. There were several cars barely moving where the access road opens up into the parking lot - seems like they didn’t know what to do with a massive open space in front of them and 30 cars behind them?

Also saw multiple folks “pulled over” on the way home (basically just stopped in the right lane) to take chains off. Slowed down traffic enough that it annoyed me.

2019-20 - Oregon - it never snows here and when it does, it sucks

    Awesome!

Winds were no joke down in the central Cascades. Super thick windloading at WP today. They reported 13” new snow but I found roughly 100cm (36+”) wind loaded in many places. Not the easiest stuff to ski first thing in the morning, I actually swapped my GPOs out for my slowboard after 2 runs. Good snowboard snow for sure.

I saw two small failed windslabs on loaded features below treeline today, one was a patrol initiated failure of a cross loaded slope that propagated almost full path but arrested in place at the top of a south facing run around 6500’ (Success), the other was a very small 25’ wide windslab in the apron below a cliff band on a north facing slope that went when a skier landed that failed and then also arrested in place. Anyways, given the forecasts I wouldn’t be fucking with anything steep near ridgelines or in the alpine for a while ...

I was walking through the lodge today looking for a friend, walk by a big group of middle aged people reading books or surfing the internet in the hall upstairs between the two lodges in street clothes, then i see a lady saving 4 seats while she reads her novel and I almost slapped it out of her hand.

Clearly a dozen runs was not enough before they shut it down today

the traffic, the lines, the goddamn sprinter doing 20 today in the middle of two lanes, but i persevere for the PNW powders. I think I am drawn to the suffering. my favorite sports teams are perennial losers. could you imagine if it was blue bird and there was snow on the roads. that would be a suffer fest for sure. can't wait

It would probably be safer doing chains in the passing lanes on 26 given the avy conditions stay safe out there

(My comment about ridgeline / above treeline terrain was also not directed at fortrees, just general obvious BC terrain avoidance advice coming off my resort obs)

Yeah, I'm shocked and a bit distraught to see gusts in 30s for the past 3 hours. Yesterday's winds were a whopping 20mph higher than forecast. So far today's are 30mph lower. Should deliver for those who rolled the dice.

Looks like the better bet is an afternoon mission tomorrow and possibly stay for Tuesday. That would be the 2nd weekday off in 12 years, with the first one being our epic Monday adventure 2 years ago with K2 and the fatty.

We can all agree that Monday was the right decision based on the "disappearance" of k2 on Jack's
