    Gutted.

I learned to ski at Holiday Hill (now Mt High East). Spent lots of time on those trails. Taught my oldest daughter how to ski there, too.

My sister lives in Victorville and photos from her place look apocalyptic. Must be even worse for Wrightwood and surrounding areas.

Feel so bad for those affected.

I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Assuming Baldy lifts are still okay? Crew posted an IG video this morning that seems hopeful.

So far, Baldy Village is largely okay. Looked real real bad from downcanyon last night. Some structures lost, think I saw 6.Click image for larger version.

Largely? I wasn’t aware the fire was that near it? I need to look at a better fire map, I can’t fathom the fire in wrightwood and baldy village simultaneously and the baldy lifts being ok

    now they’re saying they survived

Hey Mountain High fans. GREAT NEWS! Fire raced through the area yesterday but all the main lifts and buildings survived with little to no damage. Thank you to all the employees and fire fighters for their hard work. Our hearts go out to the Wrightwood families that may be suffering. We are with you!

    That’s nuts.

So who wants to sit on chairs that had fire rip through it? Jeez.

Looks like it is starting up the slope on Mt. Baden Powell, my go to backcountry spot. Sure hope the very old trees survive.

Heartbreaking. I’ve spent so much time in those mountains, SART traverse, Bridge to nowhere, Baldy hiking running and skiing, Baden Powell and everything along the 2. It’s forever changed because of the fire.

It could work out ok. Their problem is LA county or Caltrans don't plow the road and keep it closed for any little issue. Ideally they would have the rich people helicopter in to ski while the road is closed and then if the road is open have reasonable priced lift tickets for the public. I wonder if they plan to fly in employees or have them all staged in a yurt or something. All a pretty big gamble for a few storms a year at best and possibility of no natural snow some years. I think all the land is USFS, so not like they can build anything.

No way, for exactly that reason. No one with helicopter money is paying for a country club experience at Waterman, they're flying to their chalet in the Alps or chilling on the lake in Tahoe.

It's gotta be a buff-and-turf business bro endeavor. Buy asset, gusset it up with some stupid luxe spin, then sell it to an even bigger idiot. Profit.

IDK, but seems like a lot of people with money to waste in LA/SD area...judging by all the cyber trucks I see, ha. Maybe if Waterman offers financing and can market to the tech/cyrpto bros.

But yeah, I don't think the odds are in their favor. I also don't see how the traditional approach would work since the road is never open after storms. Seems like everyone who pays full price for lift tickets wants to do it the day after the storm. Despite the skiing being typically better in spring conditions. Anyone seen if the new owners paid asking price?

Regardless, should be slightly entertaining to see what happens.
