    I Hate Gondolas

    1) I'd rather be outside. Not in a box.
    2) I like the air on a chairlift to cool me down.
    3) It's usually too hot on the gondola.
    4) I hate being trapped in a box (usually with stupid tourists) having to stare awkwardly at each other face-to-face. I'd rather see the mountain.

Other than on brutal, windy cold days, I agree.

Whenever I start hating on the K1 gondola at Killington, I remind myself of riding the double it replaced on a brutal January day, and it stopped about a few hundred yards from the top, in that really exposed spot. Nasty.

    Let's do some livin'

I've never regularly skied somewhere with one, so I kind of enjoy the novelty.

Don't get me started on my love/hate with trams though.

Worst thing is taking off skis, carrying them, putting them back on. If I wanted to have to fuck around with my gear that much every lap I'd snowboard instead..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Me and 7 of my friends having a smokedown , with competing chronics and the awesome vibe that ensues, make Ganjala laps a positive Irie experience for me.
The unload is funny when there's someone looking to download... " You guys might wait for the next box".

OTOH, I can get a bowl roaring on any chair, in any wind.

Also, on big weather days, especially big wind, The Ganjala always flies.

And I know the trick for opening the doors on the fly. That's always a little trippy.

When I was in high school 4 of us went to k-mart. Lifty at the top says as the door opens and smoke billows out, "Whatinthehell is this, a walk-in bong?"

    still cracks me up

Once I hit about 50 I developed a bit of height related vertigo. Chair lifts really high off the ground can make me really uncomfortable, as in I want to jump off. So ya, gondis are my friend. YRMV

Gonjola is a welcome dry sanctuary when it's raining at the base and pounding hotpow at the summit. Skip the soaking lower mountain chairs.

helmet on, goggles down, visibly keep beat of real/imaginary music, stare out window or at feet.
But in the right company, the bacchanalia was not to be missed.

I'm happy when Squaw One is running. But if I have to take the Funi there's enough people facing enough different ways that you don't have to talk if you don't want to.

I do enjoy catching Guru Dave on the bird’s first team. Guy freely shares sage local advice as to what to hit that day, he’s an institution.

Anyone ever ride the Silver one? It's a nice replacement for a mountain road and you have plenty of time to drink, smoke, fuck, or otherwise get your groove on so you're ready to send.
    No longer stuck.

Reminds me of the season I worked there in the 90s. My oldest sister showed up for a week with a bunch of her club-med friends. A bunch of us got in the skyeship and one of her pals immediately lit up. My sister was like, “what the hell is wrong with you? My little brother is right there.” He was like, “what? He’s a ski bum.” I just shrugged, “it’s all good.” Duh.

Fast forward to a couple years ago and I get on the same lift with my kid and a couple strangers. The doors close, my son takes a sniff and says “man, I wonder how the skunk got in here.” Laughter.
