Theyre not that bad for a super straightforward skin, like when going straight up a volcano (like skinning on Rainier or Hood) as long as the snow isnt refrozen. They are good to loan out to newbies, but youd also need to find skins that fit their skis. After one of mine broke, i turned it into a binding attachment for my skibench vice.

I first used them in Las Lenas, 1994.
People even thinking about using them 25 years later, is quite an accomplishment.
