    Cannonball run record broken NY-CA

Ed Bolian's record of 28 hours 50 minutes was shattered this past weekend. Whomever broke the record is being quiet for now. I've wanted to take a run at this. Guessing it's going to be a lot harder to break it now.

Maybe we can have a TGR team? Too bad the AWD Manual Turbo supercharged Avant with a box will stick out too much.

Thanks for posting that it sent me down the rabbit hole of articles about cannonball runs. This is just the kinda stuff I come to the PR for.

I've been waiting for someone to take a serious stab at the record for years.

Love that incident in Brock Yates book when he describes Dan Guerney attempting the perfect donut in the Ferrari Daytona.

I lived for a while where they briefly moved the start from NY to a bar in Connecticut , and it was also the start/finish to the “one lap of America “. They had all kind of wild momentous nailed up to the walls.

Bolian is an ATL native and kind of a celeb among car enthusiasts here. Can’t wait to hear more about this.

I'll always regret that I couldn't join the crew when a friend of Brock asked me to help move Brock's car collection from his barn when he had to sell his place and went into a nursing home. Must have been some cool cars.

would be fun to do that. I do some of that with the area Pontiac solstice clubs but we never do anything intentionally exceeding the speed limit.

would love to do that in an BMW X5, no reason to squash yourself into a Ferrari for 30 hours if you're only averaging 80 mph imo.

Hybrid and electric technology will lower the time. Bolian had to rig an extra fuel tank into the trunk of the CL55 they used.

Sounds like it may have been another AMG with a significant budget and spotters.

Is this what Drew has been up to?

Would he have made it the whole way without lakes being frozen over?

I understand there will be a celebratory launch onto one upon his return to the Twin Cities.

Viking funeral of sorts for the shift knob.

We did the BABE Rally from the big apple to the big easy in a $300 rusted out conversion van. Sold it for a profit on NOLA as well. We had a set destination everyday so you had plenty of time to booze and sleep.

I just did 950 miles in 13.5 hours in one push including a little LA & Vegas traffic and pit stops. I was pretty happy with that.
I15 (especially in UT) is a fast fucking track.

If we're telling long-haul personal bests I'll toss this in the ring:

I recently did a trip from just outside Cleveland, Ohio to ATL (700mi) in right at 8 hours. Left at 4 am on a Saturday, had radar and WAZE going and my foot on the skinny pedal of my allroad. Made it back in time for lunch and some afternoon pool time. I was pretty happy with how it worked out.

My longest single day was Alta, UT to Iowa City, IA. 1200 miles in about 15.5 hours solo. I smoked a fat gob of bubble hash in the parking lot at Alta, tossed my pipe, and hit the road. I think I was almost to Cheyenne by the time I sobered up.

Also did Chicago to Boulder and Destin, FL to Ann Arbor as single day runs, but I did have a passenger for those jaunts. Not sure if that made them easier or harder, come to think of it.

All of those were in a Subaru Outback, FWIW.

100 mph + for 29 hours on public roads is pretty hard core.
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

    Thats moving.

I typically knock out Nashville to Venice (765 miles) in 10-11 hours. That's with kids and a wife.
