Love the chestnut stoke! Growing up I had a friend whose parents had a house in Galena. Fond memories of ripping down to the river from the lodge. Gotta admit since moving west I've never had any thoughts of hitting the hills of my youth but with Uglymoney and Harry sharing the midwest stoke I might just have to plan a visit with gear in tow.

Crazy seeing pictures like that of Chestnut with so much grass all around the minimal snow pack. Yet to as much dust the skis off from last March but have a lot of days planned around the corner in the UP.

They need a good dumping and/or a few days of cold lake effect, but neither is in the 5-7 day forecast. They should get 5"+ tomorrow so that's a start, but fingers crossed for some real cold and NW winds coming later in the month.

Christie Mountain on Xmas Eve. Fun day, gloomy and foggy, but real soft corduroy. Probably fewer than 20 people on the mountain. I ripped around carving trenches.

Crazy warm. +38F degrees on December 24, WTF ??

You probably got the warm weather we had a few days ago. And in a few days you'll probably get the deep freeze we're about to experience. Nice pics, hope you are well.

Had a blast today at Chestnut and we were blasted by warm air after a week of them blasting man made snow. That is lots of blasts. Nearly 50 today FML.

Chair 3 = OPEN! But barely. Thankfully the cold air is moving back in again Saturday evening. Snow skied colder. Super high water content. They've been blowing super aggressively, they have no choice.

The daughter and I skied bell to bell except for a quality lunch break with some ski friends who magically showed up. Must be Xmas.

Also met a maggot and his better half who are stranded in Iowa for a bit, away from real mountains, and are trying to dial in this bluff based ski scene and figure out how us flatlanders live and survive and even thrive somehow. Come to find out his better half knows a coastal cousin of mine extremely well. Pretty incredible small world story and another reason to meet up with your fellow maggots. Midwest ski guide and box of Heineken dispenser is a job I'm happy to take on for a day. I work for free when mags show up. Thanks guys! That was a blast.

This is funny, today at Christie Mountain some random dude blurts out “Are you Harry from TGR ?” Turns out he is a lurker, no login, just keeps an eye the various threads. Anyway it was a cool encounter.

Great ski days start with a great sunrise

Today at Chestnut. A few hours of snowmaking and they were back to about 75% open. Yesterday they lost a couple runs to the heat. Cold air is setting in this week. Should be money next weekend. Let us hope the cold air is sticky.

Christie Mountain is normally only open Fri-Sat-Sun, but for the week between Xmas and New Years they stay open all week. So today (Tuesday) I hit it.

    is that south ?
    toward Weyerhauser... ?

( I have an idea that is Norwegian rd. north from ctyO )

Christie Mountain is just over the hill to the west on O

    check Norewegian
    south from O, toward Weyerhauser
( and it's a lot more fun if you enter from the south...

no trick. goes over the highest spot in the area.
pretty-sure it is higher than the top of CM )

    Thank you, Harry !
    more to follow...

That pic is Norwegian Rd going north from Hwy O, thus the dead end sign. You are correct about it going south to Weyerhaeuser over the hill.
If I was coming to Christie Mountain from my gramps old place, I would go D-F-Norwegian-O. But from my Mom’s it is a way easier drive taking F from downtown Weyerhaeuser. The Rusk County Road Dept does not take real good care of Norwegian when it’s dumping (like it was today.)

Did a combo ski today, 3 hours lift-served at Christie, followed by 3 hours Nordic at the Blue Hills Trail network. Great way to close out the year 2021.

    ' wtF ? ten inches ? ' )

    That's Wisconsin -

I appreciate your mixed day in the Blue hills !

Storm band looks to be strongest just south of Chestnut but they are still in the fun zone. Maybe 3 to 5. High winds and super cold will keep the crowds down. Should be no lines on chair 3.

Things kick off with the storm about the time the lifts start spinning tmmrw.

    Hopefully a good day.

Snow started about noon and still hasn't stopped. Nothing huge but steady and made for a good day. Wife and daughter forced me me off the hill at about 530.

Bluebird day at Christie Mountain, but hungover cheeseheads and +2F meant the slopes were empty. Had a great time today.

Looks like a great day for the 104 - our local mole hill has not opened yet and just started blowing snow again today with winter weather back…. So as of now my 104s will be collecting dust…

So much great stoke…. Hoping to be at our place this Friday…!

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

It was -13F when I got to Christie Mountain, and found them closed. Guess I should have checked the website, but I’ve skied in way colder temps. But yesterday they had at most 10 customers, with about 20 employees. Tough to run a business like that.

No big deal, drove 2 miles to the Nordic trails and I was the only person there.
