^^^ Awesome Harry! I’m here to support your fitness goals and want to share my hiking fitness routine with you…

Add ski poles (with straps!) for extra twirly fun… It helps to be stoned and listening to Phish.

How many season passes are you getting for the 2024-2025 ski season? What does a midweek Lutsen pass run?

Geez, a Veteran retiree pass should be cheep, yes?

Harry, wish you'd come back to JH this year. We didn't get enough turns last year. Might see ya in the Fall. Ready to put a MicroMansion on the Isle?

Current pass quiver for next season:
    Trollhaugen = $280
    Lutsen midweek = $375
    Blues Hills Nordic = $50

Lutsen pass is also good at Snowriver in The UP and at Granite near Wausau. I bet I use it at Snowriver as much as at Lutsen.

My home mountain is Christie Mountain, but the math makes a season pass hard to break even because the day pass is so cheap. They are only open Fri-Sat-Sun so it will dovetail nice with the midweek pass.

note for Talisman: Granite is the place we saw that day we drove with my Mom & brother across the state.

    hey, Harry -

    even "Normal" snowfall,

Snowriver will be the place to be -

You are familiar with the drive from IronBelt into ironwood ( watch-out for the Law... ).
    hwy2 is an Easy run.

the 6pack at JacksonCreek ( on indianhaed moutain ) is a game changer -

Thursday and Sundays ( and Monday - Wednesday ) are going to be the days there
    ( oh. Not Sunday -

Good value on that pass with a window-price of 90. (ninety) )

it reads like your trip west worked-out -

Your 'best day in a decade' post is my *post of the year*
    Thank you for that --

I intend to spend the last week of August on the Flambeau -

I have been on ctyD a bunch this Spring and I look at the chain of lakes and think about Harry's Island--

a jungle hammock or a screen wall tent ( stand-up ) might be all the "development" I would do

( unless there is Park prep. to-be-done - and

I am interested in being party to that. )

last month, I looked it up -
Rice Lake Sand and gravel owns Hardscrabble.

I am pretty-sure I used to ski there with the kid from EC who ( I am pretty-sure ) owns that
(( see Red Flint (materials) ))

mining. landscaping stone and frac. sand...

    Summer. fishing -

    ha. I got three runs at arapahoe last Wed. before PE shut me down ;

passed on a tram ride at the 'Bird as we made a fast (?) drive to cali.
    2600 miles - one way.

    FknA.
( towing the chevy back next week )

    roll on, Harry ! !!!
( you runnin' the Bronco for the summer ? ?? ))

    With Respect. !

    tj

Greenfield tornado was wild yesterday. We skated this one over here in eastern Iowa with like one minute of 40 mph winds. Thankfully all night and all day storms and clouds zapped the energy froum our atmosphere so things fell apart as the line approached us. These storm events are becoming more and more stressful for me. Sort of grew up and became impervious, realizing they pretty much always miss us and probably always will. But things have changed. Feels like with our new superheated atmosphere the odds have turned in favor of the tornados and derechos wrecking into us eventually.

Article in the WP says this may be an F4 or F5 based on observed damage and wind speeds recorded by a mobile doppler radar that was nearby with storm chasers. Houses swept clean off of their slabs. Last F5 confirmed in the US was 11 years ago.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/weath...ornado-storms/

I don't know why in fuck you would live in a house on a slab in Iowa. My basement is fully underground, and poured concrete.

Looking forward to our next insurance rate increase as the insurance companies continue to pay our more than they take in every year. At least our company hasn't dropped us yet.

Thanks Skuff, same to you. Always amazes me how many less tornadoes Wisco and Minnesota get than Iowa, around half as many.

    Oh damn Harry! That sucks.

Nail in the coffin for the spring fire season, at least in the BWCA. Reports of 2.5 inches up there.

All good here, just some detritus from the trees. The dog was freaked out but recovers pretty well

Bunch of Jongs on the BWCA do magic mushrooms, get scared, call search and rescue. They show just in time for the world to stop spinning. Jong stays in the woods.

Harry, I feel like this could be a side gig for you. You own your own island and have a sweet canoe. You'd make a great on call backcountry shroom trip guide?!

I was just up in the BWCA with my pimp canoe. Love that place. Good memories from canoe trips with my Dad growing up. First time I’ve been there since I was a teenager.

Did not see any jongs on shrooms.

I was under the impression that shrooms were mandatory in BWCA... slow rolling northern in the lily pads.

No shrooms found, but it seems to be a great year for berries. Blackberry plants were all pretty full and should be ready in a few weeks. Kids were eating blueberries faster than I could pick them.

We have a Clearwater entry point permit for the second week of August. Bunkhouse reserved for night zero at the lodge then, 6 nights 7 days in the park. Been busy dehydrating food and touching up the gear. Just finished the shrimp marinara and have some fine boxed wine. Some mushrooms in there but not magical sadly. Going to do the Clearwater Loop, which follows the border route on Mountain and Moose for a bit before we sweep south on Fowl and back west to meander our way to the EP eventually.

Can't wait. Haven't been up the gunflint trail since I was a kid. The Vento unit is full Duluth Complex, so big bluffs. Crisscrossed by hiking trails. Johnson falls.

Have another leaf tour trip for first week of October planned. That one prolly solo.and more down toward the heart of the park area.

    Harry what did you paddle?

I’m a pussy compared to you. I got a motel room and just did day paddles. No portages, just paddled around for several hours each day. Had a good time. I’ll go back when I get my shit dialed. Impressed with the performance of my new We-No-Nah. Got a Bending Branches paddle so I look like I know what I’m doing. I’m getting old and my knees cannot handle the stress of kneeling all day like they used to. Had to sit most of the day, which took some getting used to.

Got eaten alive by black flies.
