Despite the record warm temperatures this week, significant
changes are coming by late tonight as widespread rain overspreads
Minnesota and Wisconsin. Much colder air will gradually work in
through Thursday and rain will mix with or turn to all snow late
tonight or early Thursday. The snow may be heavy at times, leading
    to potentially hazardous travel.

Fuck yeah! You know Troll will be firing up the guns.
They will be. Hell, they have already.

Don't worry. I'll get some kind of notice before the public does and I'll drop some news when I get it.

Anyone else see on BookFace that the golf course owners of The old Snowcrest/ Birch Park ski areas north of Hudson are keeping the old runs clear with plans on re opening in the future. Lots of memories watching old schoolers in spandex ripping double backs off the big kicker.

Send me a text if you hear anything. I’m not on Facebook or Twitter so I don’t get the latest news. I’ve got my gear all lined up ready to go.

Anyone know of any upcoming ski flicks being shown in the Twin Cities? I had to miss the few that just came through due to kids sports.

I think you missed the window - they're usually done by October, and I think the Salomon one was the latest showing, and that was 10/29

Had a Harry sighting today... If anyone needs some DPS Swiss Cheese, he's go a bunch of it!!

Good day for a hang out today. py weather, but great for catching up in the Axe Wax Room. Went over to Lucy's Burgers for a late lunch and a beer. Great to see my "old" friend again after the summer that kinda never was.

I really liked these DPS skis, but no way to salvage them. Multiple maggots have been in possession of this pair over the years, I got them for free from schwerty out in Jackson, time to retire them. Next years Ullr burn pile.

Very similar to Djongo’s infamous maggot waxroom in Jackson, just needs a bigger bong

14 full snowmaking days left till the Brule Thanksgiving camp kicks off. I was hoping last night would be a window, but temps stayed warmer than predicted. We have a place reserved for the whole extended family so we'll be making the trip up either way.

Looks like Brule bought 4 new SMI'S. That should help if we get some cold air.

Anybody else in? Justcuz you taking your girl again?

Think cold. The extended forecast sucks.

    November is the new October.

I don't see snowmaking weather until the end of next week ( 26F, Thursday morning ; 24F Friday morning ) ; daytime Temp.s above freezing.
If anybody can pull it off, it is the crew at SkiBrule.

November is the new October rings true up north.

    Good luck !

Yeah, I spent last weekend in the U.P. and was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt during the day and threw on a fleece vest in the evening. Crazy warm for mid-November, my phone says I was running around Ironwood this same weekend last year and the pics have me wearing a down puffy.

Ugly$, sorry Im late to the party but awesome TR. As I read I had the thought that I could be reading this in the Mountain Gazette or some other highly regarded outdoor mag. I wish I could write with style.
BWCA is such a special place and I have spent many weeks up there.
It was the first vacation that my now wife and I took together. What a great way to really get to know someone and after that trip I knew she was the one. We have shared this amazing place with our kids (both were 2 at the time of the trips). Your post makes me want to return with the family and has me dreaming of a solo trip.

Wow, so cool. That is really an amazing way to solidify a connection with someone. I couldn't imagine having a spouse that didn't want to go share these outdoor spaces with me. You, are a very lucky guy.

Thank you for taking the time to read my trip report and for the props. It means a lot. I get obsessed with things, the BW being one of them, and it makes it easy to write. I made a bunch of recordings on the trip with the intention to put together an audio memoir that would sort of be combined with what I wrote above, but haven't started...still in the searching for audio editing software phase. We'll see.

How is the knee recovering? Do you think you are going to be skiing this winter?

The audio thing sounds really cool. I would not have the patience to edit it. If you get it put together I’d love to give it a listen.

I did not end up having surgery. I went to the surgeon after the swelling went down and He manipulated the knee and told me if it was his knee he would not do surgery, and he loves doing surgery. He also said he treats knees and not MRI’s and said the ACL felt solid. He knows I’m a skier, he is also a skier.
My knee is feeling good. I Hit the PT hard and have been working out with a strength and conditioning trainer this fall. I think my legs are stronger now they were last year before the injury. The PCL and MCl have healed. I’m getting fitted for a custom brace early December. I plan on skiing some this winter but I’ll probably start out pretty slow.
We did not get epic passes this year, but we did get Indy passes. Currently we are planning on staying in the Midwest, but we are going up to Lutsen, and spirit mt in January. And have a weekend or two in February at galena. Our skiing now has to be planned around my daughter’s swim meets.

Hopefully we can meet up at chestnut again this winter.

Give a shout when you go, I have a midweek pass at Lutsen, and Spirit Mtn is an easy drive for me.

That would be sweet, I’ll let you know when we firm up plans currently we are looking at MLK weekend and extending into the next week. I know holiday weekends suck but with kids and school it’s the least worst option.

Depending on how my knee holds up I’d like to come up some Wednesday for coffee and skiing, although I’ll still have to pay for my coffee for a few more years.

Sounds like good news about the knee. Take it easy, groomer, great time to go back and work on the basics.

Definitely ping me when you come to the Nut!

    Will do.

I’m ready to be humbled by my kids. It was bound to happen someday but good chance this is the year!

I’ll be cruising Chestnut on the weekend of January 24th, with a huge crew of kids in tow. Just loaded up on the “discounted” tickets. Our 3rd year making the trip and always a blast. Last year they used photos of us drinking beers by the fire on the website, so this year we need a more ambitious goal. Can’t wait to see what mysteries await us at the lodge bar each night. Never a dull scene.

I’m not sure, haven’t seen the movie. I did hear he fixes the cable though.
