    Yo uglymoney,

I’m in the market for a new boat. What’s going on with Starks in Prairie du Chein ?

I figured it out, you have to go into the liquor store and ask about boat sales. Wisconsin AF.

Found what I was looking for closer to home. Meet my new daily driver, 16.5 foot Starcraft, side console, 60hp Yamaha.

    Woah! Looks nice.

I have no first hand recent info on Starks. Probably continuing on a bit as a shadow of its former glory. The owner who knew my grandpa died in 2018 and the place soldiers on with the kids running it I think.

Fresh in from 7 days in the BWCA with literally zero interwebs, inreach text messages only. Didn't fish much but found and released this smallmouth trolling back to camp on a day trip.

Northern lights went off one of the nights we had a north facing site on a US-Canadian border lake.

Put together a little video from our trip to the BW. We did the Clearwater Loop from Clearwater. 6 nights. Good, clean fun.

It's been a while since I've checked out the Midwest thread. So much going on and it's not even close to winter yet

Nice looking boat you got there, Harry. Plenty of room to pull in those late summer/fall lunkers.

Ugly, beautiful photos and cool video of the BW. Looks like you guys timed the night lights perfectly. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks D! I really enjoy putting those videos together, good way to remember the trips. That one turned out pretty decent, save for the clunky audio, the interface on the video software I am using is garbage for the soundtrack so kind of unavoidable.

I'm hoping to make another spin through the BW last weekend of Sept into first week of October when there should still be some good color left and few people. Will have two days when lake trout season is still open. Would love to catch one and have a target lake picked out. All depends on the weather though. I'm not going in if it is going to be brutal cold and rainy or dangerously windy. I have my tarp with inner, sleeping bag, pad, all under 5 lbs, have Bending Branches carbon fiber paddle coming, and a sweet set of NRS boundary boots for the cold to keep my feet dry. Love putting gear together for these things. I have never done a solo wilderness trip with overnights, which kind of blows my mind since I am pretty introverted and loved traveling solo before my wife made it more fun to travel with other people, so that is the bucket list item to check off.

We'll see. Come on ma nature.

Have the Brule camp booked for Thanksgiving again. Whoot!

Those things are the bomb for cold flatwater paddling trips. Wife and I bought some last summer before doing a few days of kayak camping on Yellowstone Lake. Shoulda got them years ago, we both agreed.

Do you use them with socks or just woth your bare feet? Stoked on them. Many hours of research before purchasing.

IIRC I wore wool socks but my wife did not wear socks most days. I think you can go either way depending on personal preference.

Nothing to tell other than too many hours at the office here in the MN. Got to the cabin twice...boo... Made a trip to Canada for a few days. The fish were sorta biting, but not great. It was still early though, and had been pretty chilly. My M-I-L checked into hospice a little over a week ago, and I'm just waiting to get that call. Mrs Axe has been back home for the last (nearly) 2 weeks, and I'm ready to put my livestock up for adoption. Been texting with Harry from time to time - wish I had more time so I could get over to go on a booze/herb cruise. Captain Harry Tours...

My Elan/Roxa connection got hit on his motorcycle by a 19-y-o chick early this summer, and luckily escaped with his life, but he's been in the hospital for nearly 3 months. I'll be helping out a lot at the local pre-season swaps and such on his behalf. Hoping for a good recovery for him, but it has been and will continue to be a long road for him.

We're making a trip across the pond (depending on the M-I-L situation) in early October. Flying into Amsterdam, then catching a flight to Hamburg. From there, we'll go to Kiel Germany, hop on a BIG f'in boat, and cruise to Copenhagen, and then up the Norwegian coast, hitting a bunch of fjords. It's Mrs Axe's 50th and our 22nd wedded bliss (?) celebration. My first time out of North America. I hope things line up - I'd hate for this trip to get postponed, but that's a pretty selfish thought...

Dropped off a bunch of skis, poles, and other assorted ski shit at Trollhaugen for their swap this weekend. Picked up my season pass while I was there. Hubba hubba.

Blizzard Scout 108, in 185, same ski as the OG Cochise but without any metal. My favorite all-time ski, long and easy flexing really fit my style. All day, everyday, a decade of 100+ day seasons at Big Sky. All kinds of maggot stickers. Even a rare BBI Safety Crew sticker ! I skied them at Christie Mountain but that is just plain stupid, so they gotta go despite the memories. Adjustable demo bindings.

Wall Art, some real old wooden skis with screw-on metal edges, cable bindings, includes period correct poles with leather baskets. Really cool, but does not go with my current decorating motif. Many maggots have visited my place in Big Sky these were mounted on my living room wall.

Not happening now. With Mrs Axe's mother in hospice still, we decided it was best to nix the Euro-Trip. Even if she had died before we were supposed to go, spending the time we woulda had there grieving really didn't seem to make sense, and going before she passed woulda meant her being constantly in fear of getting "the call". No real good choices here... We would've been arriving in Germany tomorrow morning... Now we are fighting with the trip insurance company to try to get some of what we paid back...from the very people you buy the "policy" from?? Kinda f'd in my opinion.

I worked the ski sale at Joe's Sporting Goods in Little Canada last weekend. It's always nice to chat with skiers! Sold about 4 pair of boots and a set of skis while I was subbing in for the laid-up Elan/Roxa rep. That was a good time.

Might zip over to the Troll swap...or maybe take my renewal permit to carry class...who knows? Tomorrow is me & the Mrs' 22nd anniversary, so I'm sure a nice dinner will be in order.
