    it can be
    a long day trip -

If overnight, Sven and Ole's in Grand Marais for pizza

    Or
Cascade Lodge feeds a great Breakfast !

Might be cold this weekend -
Still, a Good time to be on the North Shore...

    Safe trip, Please, Harry !

If you go to Grand Marais you go to the Java Moose for coffee from the hotty instagram weather woman owner who's the shizzle.

Then to insure good luck on the slopes you have to drop a 6 pack of New Glarus at the coop in care of Adam from the Tumblehome podcast. Bonus points if he is there and you can talk kevlar canoes for a minute or two.

    Buy another island.

At least that would be my order of business if my name was Harry.

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

Came up here on Thursday, leisurely drive. Dinked around in Duluth at lunchtime. Visited one of my favorite stores, Marine General. Then up the North Shore at a slow pace, stopping at every historical marker. Checked into my motel in Tofte about 3, then headed to Grand Marais. Stopped at a cool waterfront bookstore and picked up an interesting book about the natural history of the North Shore. By this time I was hungry. While looking for Sven & Ole’s Pizza I saw Hungry Hippy Tacos. Hell yeah. Then drove back to Lutsen, they let me pickup my pre-purchased pass for tomorrow. I looked the place over, these ski bridges and tunnels make me think of Moonlight Basin. Now back at the motel, headed for the hot tub.

I hope they have more snow than Spirit Mountain had for you. I’ve always thought Lutsen was worth the extra drive time. I think all our snow is going to be south of you tonight, unfortunately. Have fun!

Let us know how the snow is. Might be down for driving up there next week. Buck is open Saturday - cost is 3 non perishable food items if you have a season pass at any ski area. Free if u have a Buck pass. Trying to restock the local food shelf.

If Russ Kendall's shop is open in Knife River, be sure to stop in there and get some smoked whitefish, wrapped in newspaper. Classic nort' shor' fixin's for a fine snack plate.

Opensnow shows 17 inches for Lutsen starting g Sunday thru Wednesday. They need it up there desperately. Wildfires have already been popping up.

Down here we did get a nice surprise with about 5 inches of heavy wet snow overnight. Good for the dog, soil, and soul.

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

I ended up having a good time at Lutsen. This was my first time there and I was somewhat of a clueless gaper. First thing I jumped on the gondola, that’s when I snapped that pic above. Got off at the top, saw where people were going, and went that way. Oops, coral reef. Looked around, no other way to go so down I went. No fun. Came to a lift and got on it with no idea where it went. Got to watch a college race going on just to the left of the lift line. The lift dropped me off up by the Summit Lodge so I went in there to let the sun soften up the snow. Spent 45 minutes in the Lodge enjoying the view. Bunch of college racers in there, I was surprised to see Montana State there. Two girls recognized me from Big Sky and came over to say Hi. They waived their coach over who remembers me too. That was cool and made me feel good. I went back out and the former coral reef was now sugar. Lots of fun. Cruised around up there for quite a while, but not much terrain was open and I got bored lapping the same run over and over. So around 1pm I downloaded the gondola (only way back to the base area). The runs over there were a lot shorter, but there were a lot more runs open, basically all of them, I think) so it stayed interesting.

Overall I had a good time. Every lift was ski-on. Snow softened up nice.

Having said that, although I only planned to ski one day, I could have stayed up there a couple more days if the skiing was really good. It wasn’t, so just one day was fine. I will be back next season, this was a test run.

Stinker that the snow was low tide but cool that you went up and checked it out.

Maybe try for a mag gathering next season?

Have a buddy that's moving back to Eau claire. He's been a fishing guide in Montana and Wyoming for over 20 years. I'm scheming a big muskie(y) trip to visit family and mags. I'm a trout weenie but hopefully I can make it to Harry's island and cast a shitload of feathers. Also poppers for largemouth are cool .

Mag meet-up at Lutsen would be a good time. I'd be down.

One of the things I remember about Lutsen (it's been a few years) is that they were able to switch their snowmaking water source to the big lake, and HOLY SHIT was that show BLINDINGLY WHITE!!

The black one - Chloe - will be 6 this summer, and the yellow one - Cooper - is a little over 2. Chloe looks like a puppy though - she's about 40lbs and ALL legs.
