"Great effort by Cal but just too much Remy down the stretch."
-announcer just said that.
I can see how that might be a problem, though.

All things considered, it's amazing. I'm starting to think Patrick can coach. Some time I'll have to tell the story of when I saw him play in high school. Yup I did.

Looking at schedules, I like Nova's chances of finishing at the top of the Big East ahead of the tourney. Next four games are all against teams that are in the bottom 5 of the current Big East standings.

Wathching this Wisconsin-Purdue game and it's 5 white guys against 5 black guys. I guess you're not supposed to notice but it's kinda weird.

so I watched the Maryland-Northwestern game last night. Pat Spencer, #12 for Northwestern, is kind of a cool story. He was a 4-time All-American (3-time first team in his soph, junior and senior years) in lacrosse at Loyola and won the Tewaaraton Award last year, which is basically the National Player of the Year award.
Because of eilgibility rules I was't aware of, he was able to get a 5th year of eligibility and is playing hoops as a grad student at Northwestern. He starts, and is good, and he hasn't played since high school. What an absolute stud of an athlete.
Some highlights:

What's up with grad students in MD playing hoops??? There was also that guy two years ago from UMBC who beat UVM for the Ro64 spot in America East.

Apparently if you play 4 years and graduate in 4 years and you go to graduate school you can get another year of eligibility as long as it's in a different sport. I never heard of that rule until yesterday, I'm not sure what the deal with the UMBC guy was.

I’m not sure what’s more annoying
These awful Xavier unis
How disorienting the paint job of the Hoyas lane is on tv
Or how these refs can’t go 30 seconds without blowing their whistles - both ways.I still call it The Jake.

Yep definitely a rule. Interesting side note is that volleyball and beach volleyball are actually separate sports. Apparently it is a loophole frequently used by women volleyballers. The daughter of one of my buds thought about spending a year in Cali enjoying the beach after 4 years on scholly at uva playing inside but ultimately passed on it.
Seemed a dubious decision to me but she shockingly didn’t ask for my sage advice.

And back on topic, I know sec hoops doesn’t get much attention, but anyone else catch Tennessee coming back from 17 down in the second half to beat Kentucky at rupp? I watched because I’m a ut fan and alum. Amazing result. Doesn’t inspire much confidence for uk as a bracket pick.

Tony Bennett is a basketball genius. He has a team that shoots 41% from the field and 30% from the arc 1 game away from the ACC title and in the top 25 nationally at 22-7. That's 295th in the nation for FG percentage and 311th in 3PT FG percentage. That's insane.
Tony Bennett is a basketball genius.
That is all.
