Which kinda dovetails into what we found out, thanks to our maggot friend. The contract was basically horseshit in many regards, an awkward cut and paste bunch of nothings. So I have proposed to my partner that we alter the contract language to suit our needs, sign it, and send it back. Something tells me the secretary who sent it is gonna file it without reviewing the language and we get what we want out of the deal.

We have to say we changed the contract for it to be valid so we're going to bury 'We changed some things' in the middle of a long rambling reply letter about how stoked we are to work with them. I have an author who literally cuts up his contracts with a scissors and tapes it all back together, or just the parts that he wants to keep, then photocopies it and signs it and send it back to us. Drives my boss insane, but we want the guy's books so we have little choice but to go along with it. Cracks me up.
