-4` with a wind of 3 and an additional inch of snow overnight bob and the sun is starting to poke out of the light cloud cove. -12 summit
I probably should have gotten over to MRG before this holiday week upcoming as it looks very nice, got a couple of 2fers so end of the month is a possibility.
Yesterday afternoon proved to be an 8.95/10 ski day. Out at 1 til closing bell skiing the new couple of inches that added to the rest of the lightly skied snow this week. Virtual ski on makes for quick laps.
I was watching a group of 8 or 9 jongs [Quebec accents] who skied/boarded too low into a spruce thicket. Several had abandoned gear and were postholing trying to get out. One mistook me for patrol and tried to get me to go 30' lower to help a rider who was trapped heads up in a treewell. He was breathing, so I ignored his plea to avoid a decent into hell and his buddy started climbing up to him. Got a call then that my neighbor friend M and Jedi Noah had arrived unannounced and were on the bravo lift. Continued my traverse 60' to the right and skied my line I was headed to. Saw a guy with skis off postholing down through the thicket 20' to my left as I skied down. I bet 3 or 4 dozen kooks will follow their tracks and suffer by Monday.
tl/dr moral of the story, don't follow tracks
Light traffic in some woods zones, as the trails are skiing so nice, meant nicely refreshed skiing.

Rob - I'm sorry. I feel like a jerk.
I will be staying away from the Zone for the next couple of storms to make sure you get your well deserved first tracks. I need to explore some new spots, anyway.
However, feel free to conscript me to break trail, and surrender first tracks.

^^^ yea, that in a nutshell is why i haven't been to whiteface since the last time i braved frostbite temps about 15yrs back.
but antarctica might not be the best yardstick for comparison these days;

They make it sound worse than it is. I skied Whiteface last Saturday (report said afternoon temp was -18 at the summit) and I’m here today (report currently says submit is -10). Winds aren’t bad at all. Whiteface gets a bad rap.
Sure, it’s cold, but it’s not unpleasant. Couple runs...Switchback...couple runs...Switchback...and so on. They really need to get Ubu back on tap.
Great coverage, place is empty. Benny would appreciate the honesty of the snow report, listed as loose and frozen granular. No misleading packed powder! Plenty of soft for the exploring.

Facking nippy out in the sun today. Unfortunately the sub zero temp took the packed powder out of the groomers. Gone was the Ron Popiel "set it and forget it" deep edge set, replaced with firm corduroy "pay attention to your pressure" skiing. Bumps still holding good loose snow for some leg warming exercise.
Moisture in the untracked snow below 3000' firmed the base up considerably overnight. Areas that I sank 10 -12" into heavy powder yesterday are now skiing 3" or so deep over supportive base. First few turns were interesting as my speed jumped and I dialed it down.
Sun was nice to have around, the NW wind not so much.
Soup and a sammy was good, nice crisp on the cheese.
Stopped by the neighbors for a beer, can't say it wasn't fresh

Thanks, but no need for concern. The big deal is the blowdowns to deal with up next summer.
As for your tracks, my infirm knee was the greater problem anyway . Still, it was good to get out in the zone. Next day, because I did not push it, the knee feels used but not abused. I had my lightest knee brace on, it was fine most of the day. I'll bring a heftier knee brace for descents.
The sad truth is that whine does not age well

^^ vt-free: well you made it look nice and worthwhle if a little disappointing. (in december it might be considered a more painless base-building event.)
um, they burnt the toast again though
^^ spanky : mad snow then cold stowe...nice outing! i'm glad we won't have to see any more indoor skiing pics, novelty notwithstanding
and the veggie chili to boot...good man!

Grab the flannel lined jeans this morning! Brrrr.
Also, the cat skiing operation on Burnt Mountain at Sugarloaf opens today for the season. Bring Vaseline... for the cold.
