The skiing was really quite nice this morning on Mansfield. Everything is resurfaced and the new snow/sleet is supportive and dense so you can crank pretty hard for the depth. Might check out some logging roads for the holiday tomorrow.

Really good skiing first thing at the River today, I think we may have gotten the jackpot for this storm. The downside of a relatively good lift system is that things got tracked out pretty quickly.

The other downside to the really good snow is that I got a bit overenthusiastic early and planted myself chest-first into a large waterbar. Being on the clock, I dutifully filled out the forms and got checked out by patrol, which led to an ambulance ride and hospital visit to confirm my first guess--I will probably be sore as f*** tomorrow, but there was no real damage except to my ego.

On the plus side, I recently went from carrying my radio in a chest pocket to carrying it in a belt holster. Very, very glad for that decision now.

Early morning Alta of Quebec was 7.5/10. Left as soon as it got blown out. Storm was drying out as I left but an easy 12” must have come down up there.

Adventure skiing with Bob T is always a treat. Ruby and Cooper joined in the fun with doggish enthusiasm, to wit, they covered about 11 miles, maybe 12. Bob and I covered 7.4 miles. We gained almost 2600 feet of vertical but the dogs may have gained much more. Only 20-24 inches on the ground at 3500'.

Disappointed by the scant snowfall, we went up into The Zone anyway. Low tide didn't affect the up, but the down through the rocky sections was seriously impacted.



Low snow was one thing but it looked like a bomb went off at 3200 feet. The twenty or more blowdowns were quite dispiriting.


There was a scattering of downed trees of various sizes in other places too.

Three feet of snow will improve things quite a lot. Till then I have a little work to do.

My boss convinced me to take a PTO day today to meet him at Cannon. We were both very discouraged to see approx 0" new snow in the notch. So much for the "cannon effect." We caught first tram, anyway. On the first 3 runs or so we managed to find some wind-gathered 2"-4" of softish, dense snow/sleet/whateverthehellfell last night, which made for fun turns. Everywhere else was either boilerplate, or getting soaked by the "snow" guns which seemed to be just pissing warm water. After that, everything was skied out. Boss headed back to Boston at around 10:30. I caught up with my former boss, now ski patrol at cannon, for a run, then I bailed, too.

I had noticed on the way up that the stretch of 93 through the Lakes Region was in the worst shape (i.e. most snow on the road). Fortunately, I never go to cannon without touring gear (windholds, etc.), and I had presciently thrown my Cardigan map into my pack last night, so I figured - what the hell? I've never been, but have heard great things.

Very very glad I checked it out. There is some awesome skiing on that mountain.

I would have been able to do more than one lap if I hadn't taken the time to hike to the summit. But I'm glad I went. The views were great:


Seriously though, it was a fun climb to the top.

The coverage was thin on the way down (less than a foot), but dense enough to keep the skis up off the dirt.

I'm from Virginia, so we don't have much skiing. My brother in law invited us up to stay with a week at his parents place upstate NY. From there we launched up to Gore with my 2 kids.

It was a rainy day. Not the greatest conditions by any objective standard. However it was a great mountain. Kids program was great. If there was better conditions, I'm sure it would be awesome. I will return.

For some reason, I'm getting bounced from the Forums, being referred to as a "bot". I'm not a "bot". I'M A MAN!

It's a great mountain when it snows. Fantastic tree skiing, relatively uncrowded, compared to big Vermont hills.

i’m sure the soup here is great. took a look at the smoked salmon platter and the pate but opted for my pb&j.

Turned out there was actually some good coverage in already cleaned lines.

Thanks for the stoke all. Another great day at the mighty Burke but skied solo so no photo evidence. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get too drenched this weekend. Making a beer cellar sacrifice to Uller in thanks for the last two days of greatness after a pretty rough lull. To a snowy 2020.....
