I wonder if these resort closures make Tucks more, or less, of a draw? Everyone heading to Tucks, or more people skin their local closed resort? Interesting to ponder. Also, Gaspe for those in da Nord?
Our local school district of Mount Desert Island is closed for 2 weeks as of last Friday (I think the first in Maine to close). Getting bikes ready this afternoon for family rides on the park loop road in Acadia which is closed to auto traffic until April 15. Not a bad consolation.

Schools closed here.campus closed. Just installed trailer hitch for bike rack. Sleeping platform inside is next. So warm and sunny on the cape. Trails are in great shape and they just stocked trout in the ponds.

East MF Coast 19/20.
Gaspe is far from everything, kinda like Maine. So unless you’re local to the area it would be hard to find accommodations in the current context. QC gov just ordered closure of bars, clubs, movie theatres and gyms (on top of schools last week). Still no word on ski hill closures. It’s funny, on CBC radio last week they actually suggested people go to ski hills as a way to get outside during social isolation, since they are still open. I feel like that may change soon.

Yes, agreed. I thought if everything closes down for a few weeks in Eastern Canada like happening in the states right now, localish people may head for Gaspe to camp and ski tour and ride this thing out which would increase traffic there.
I live in Acadia and we're starting to see lots of out of state plates arriving. Us locals are starting to think that folks from Southern New England with Summer homes here are coming to isolate/self quarantine themselves here for a few weeks. Trouble is they are probably bringing the virus with them.
Be well, and be kind everyone. And wash your hands, a lot.

And Smuggs staying open, very interesting.
The Smuggs management team has just finished an in depth evaluation of the correct direction for Smuggs given the circumstances pertaining to COVID-19
We have decided to remain open with significantly modified operations limiting risk where we are unable to remain within the social distancing guidelines. The list of comprehensive modifications will be available by the end of the day for employees and guests.
I have the utmost respect for the decision to temporarily close mountain operations made by other resorts. Each of us must decide based on our unique circumstances. As you know Smuggs is an independent business and not subject to central decision making nor do we think it is wise, considering each resort has different circumstances, to simply follow the crowd. With that in mind we carefully evaluated the choices and impacts of each choice on employees, guests, and Smuggs deeded property owners.
Our cultural DNA makes it very difficult to make final decisions on their behalf. We do believe it is our responsibility to minimize the exposure to COVID-19 and we will continue to so to the best of our ability and knowledge and consultation with outside experts.
Our plan is un-complicated. We will communicate our specific actions for every Smuggs touch point to guests, employees and owners today.
We will make it clear that in-house or arriving guests will have a no questions asked choice to receive cash refunds or re-apply deposits for a future stay with a 10% bonus for doing so.
Employees will be given a no questions asked opportunity to stay home, sick or not, with no consequences for future employment at Smuggs.
Our property owners rights will be honored.
We know our business volumes will be down considerably and we also know that the remaining public will appreciate the opportunity to continue to enjoy the great outdoors at Smuggs..
Finally, around the world the right thing to do is a moving target and I reserve the right to change as new circumstances arise.
Yours sincerely,
Bill Stritzler
Managing Director and Owner

Predict they’ll sell ~7 lift tickets over the next week and will subsequently reconsider. Unless the state steps in first.
