Just got back from a month out West on Friday, right into a fun pair of days on Washington/Agiocochook. Ain't been nothing close to pow, but beautiful and moody walking up in the alpine:

Snow was pretty beat on Saturday, so we decided to torture ourselves with exercise and do the "PCP" - Pinkham Notch to summit to the bottom of the Cog, back up to the summit, then ski down Tucks to Pinkham. Summit #1 selfie:

Buddy Ryan Gibbs on the descent down the cog side. Blinding pea soup fog for a minute and then some fun turns on the narrow trail slaloming between all the parties coming back up:

This was my first time skiing down the West side, so I made Gibbs stop a lot to try and ski model along the variety of cog infrastructure:

Going back up. I like the Pinkham side since there is a variety of sections, you switch to crampons, and get some changes in movement. Cog side was just a straight vertical slog on the skins. Bleh.

Played hooky yesterday to go on a date with a gal who's been dying to go booting up the alpine around Washington. Yes please! I think I'm in love?

19` light breeze and a quick view destroying flurry coming from the north bob. Incoming snow is most welcome for quality skiing Tomorrow through Sunday.

Any you guys ever do this?

    https://peakraces.com/snowshoe-races...championships/

I do not plan on snowshoeing anything. I guess I have to wait a bit since the date was moved, but I'd think I could get away with trail shoes (maybe add micro-spikes) if were this weekend.

But local beta will tell me if I'm wrong.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

It's certainly fun riding on a bike and will have some grueling uphill for snowshoeing. I am going to guess due to the narrow track the course will get chewed up fairly quickly resulting in a loose track. Running shoes would be at a disadvantage in those conditions.

Too good not to share over here too

    For Benny

Watched a short track snowshoe race in Lewiston way back in the day. I think most came down from Canada. Looked like a lot of fun

The 2 and 3 ski variations of those snowscoots are pretty popular up here. A friend of a friend is pretty good on one, can get down anything

I'm skiing Friday. Gonna be Jay or Stowe. Haven't been to either in 9 years -- how much has Stowe changed since Vail ownership? I've heard rumors...

    Advice appreciated.

I'm almost fully recovered from the season I lived at Jay. I left that winter as a spoiled snob -- wouldn't schuss unless it snowed over a foot. I'd literally stay home during 6-8" storms.

Now that I've picked up a set of Monster 83s and skied ice for a few years I'm starting to appreciate it all again.

Go to Jay, looks like they are forecast to get a few more inches out of this storm than Stowe and you'll save about $40 on a lift ticket.

Stowe hasn't changed much since the 70's... go to Jay.

Forecast is better... and nice to see you around.

Heard it going to rain 2" over the next couple of days.
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Depends on where yer lookin' - Northern VT seems like it'll be spared from any liquid precip.

Other than price and weekend crowd [like most places] Stowe hasn't changed much since Vail. Don't get caught [thrown out] poaching.

Washed my car today so expecting the rain to fall soon.

Shit, looks like a lot of rain.
