    does the story check out?

Just came across this. Not a plug and nothing to do with me. ONLY cause Scot Schmidt is God in my books and I know he hangs around here. Just wondering if someone could verify the story. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/K2-Extreme-8...8AAOSwBYpdrySs
Growing up I was a very technical skier at a tiny ski hill, now when I go back, I just take the whole thing in ... with flexion, then extension. And yeah I am over it.

I think I have a pair of Extremes in my basement. A little shorter but I'll sell them to you a lot cheaper. Who would know the difference?

They are only 207cm? I am thinking Schmidt wouldn't have skied anything less than a 225...

Message the seller and ask him/her to provide some kind of validation to the claim. Then, if he/she is able to provide proof, it's up to you how much you want to spend on a pair of skis that were pretty visibly skied hard and put away wet...

I would definitely have the seller provide an appraisal from a certified vintage ski appraiser. They can do tests to confirm they are as old as advertised and not modern fakes. They can also check to see if Schmidt's DNA is on them.

So an ebay seller with zero reviews and can't spell skis should be a dead giveaway that this is a scam.

Given that the "skies" are located in Bend, Oregon I think the seller has gone to a few too many dispensaries.

from a 1985 Powder article about Schmidt:
His skis are 215s, GS, with slightly higher boots and bindings which don’t release easily.

207s probably not, if the bindings arent race bindings then no way

    offer $37

I emailed and asked for better pics. At first glance, I think the mount is too long for a foot of Mr. Schmidt’s likely size.

Funny though, this was a real hot ski for a few years. I was newer to skiing and all the fast guys had the K2 Extreme. I passed up a minty pair at a Village Road yard sale a few years ago. They were way nicer than the listing. Maybe they were $125.

    JHC...

As a certified vintage ski appraiser, I can tell ya...

K2 extremes prolly went to 208. Not much from that era longer in a shelf ski.
Flipping K2's each season for delams was big during this skis time. 3 pair of Missiles for me. Then 2 pair of seths, the flame tip ones . Not the junk that followed.

I doubt Schmidt was rolling the 215's daily. Doug didn't, nor did Glen.

When DC went to K2, the fischer RC4 dominance waned in JH. But the Vashonies were ultimately pukey skis and were not durable enough.

All the ad info points to scam.

And I'm with skidog, I'd roll them clamps.

In the Byzantostle fat black flatfoot stomp there was an unguent man.
An unguent man slathering glopped pustuled doorknobs by the dozen, strictly by the dozen.
A dozen from his cousin in in the dojo, quick nebula grasssmoker, grab the joint quickly from his bug splattered hands, the unguent man.

Wax him, throw slap shot slug wads from your sensei stick of diasporic destiny, Manifest or not, curling up in the purling streams of steam and wonder, cloud augered, cirrus crisped, down dawns rosy fingers wrapped in wattled woolens, no eucalyptic, conniptic dyspeptic algebra, but a wheezer dreamstake punched in the penumbra of the continuum.

Rapped like a mummy, mommy, so recently dead, long disfigured, remembered dismembered tax nightmares and the hot, nightmare of the Florida of someone else's heaven. But heaven is not hot, or so they say. Florida sure is. Land of deflation.

Living in cages tall and cold
And some just stay there and dust away,
    Past the age of old
    Is this true?
Please let me talk to you
I just want to know about,
    The rooms behind your minds
Do I see a vacuum there or am I going blind?
Or is it just remains from vibrations and echoes long ago

It's a silly story to just make up. I wouldn't be surprised if the story is true, but the seller doesn't know jack about skis or skiing. Who the hell offers a notarized letter on old skis? Doesn't mean I would pay $500 though.

    New pics are up.

It looks like the heel piece is slid all the way to the rear. If moved forward on the rail to centerish ground, the mount would look a lot smaller.

Isn’t there a thread about a guy with a historically significant Schmidt jacket and he wonders if he should wear it skiing? Here are his skis!

Considering Scot skied them “10 times” then this guy got them and trashed them and now trying to sell. Hahah.

There’s a chump with money to blow somewhere I guess.

If they weren’t trashed by some Jabroni and came signed with a picture of Scot ripping a daffy on them they might be worth $300.
