Missed ya mall walker! But did not miss the beaters lol. The short groomer between apex and summit was pure high density unskilled skiing carnage. Fantasy ridge to this beauty into soft bumps and chop had me pumped

If you've lost an ice axe, scroll to point 11 below.

Haven't posted in a while. Missing 6 out of the last 7 weekends hasn't helped. Regardless, had a great, memorable day on Generator today. I've been trying to ski it for about 3 years, but either didn't attempt due to snowpack or got turned around with the gnarly bushwack and lack of time(last year). This time, plan was to go up powerhouse and go over to generator. Foolproof, right? Crew was rwalk and non-mag Willy T.

    Advice/observations about the day:
    1. While pre-existing vert tracks up creek gullies are likely more efficient, skinning up and over all those boulders is a lot of fun.

    2. Ali-Baba secret passage!

    3. Relying on faded memories of trip reports and pins on the Wasatch Backcountry map for odd ski lines is not ideal.

    4. Spoiler Alert: This line doesn't go.

    6. Don't litter. If you do unintentionally litter, ski the wrong chute so you have to boot back up 634 steps to retrieve your water bottle. Yeah I counted.

    7. Pro tip #127: A: Verts are amazing. B: if the buckle/plastic clip on your Verts ices up, peeing on it is a great way to breakup the ice buildup. Sorry no pic.

    8. Make the best out of skiing of sections of slabby rock by throwing your hands in the air like you just don't care.

    9. In generator (at the current time), don't trust all of your turns. There were rocks in all sorts of places you wouldn't expect. Otherwise snow is great in there.

    10. The Crux is pretty rad and will be more rad with more snow. For now, downclimbing was a good choice, especially after finding rocks everywhere near the top. While it could have been skiable/sidesteppable near the top, with so many sharks, it wasn't worth the risk of falling through some pretty gnarly stuff below.

    11. If you find an ice axe, grab it and post on the asking if anyone has lost one. (PM if it's yours, although I would really like to keep it since I've lost two myself).

    12. The bushwack out is still a grind. Lots of fun in the creek with Verts(no pee this time).

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that a rescue out of this place would be horrendous. Several large drops on complicated creek terrain. Managing a sled would be extremely difficult.

    13. If someone is trying to merge into the down canyon traffic near Stairs, don't speed up so they can't get in the lane and almost get destroyed by a bus driving up canyon. To this dude, I respectfully say fuck you for almost killing us all. Seriously the most dangerous part of a day that included skiing above a bunch of fatal exposure.

All in all a great (long) day out.

Edit: sorry for rotation of pics. Too lazy/no time to worry about that.

Great settled pow on N facing, ski crampons definitely helped today with steep skinning in washy snow. Despite the warm temps think N facing will still be good tomorrow

Question for you locals: I’m visiting and staying in Eden. Am hoping to hit Pow Mow tomorrow, but concerned about possible road closure due to the storm. What’s typical for a storm like this? Would I be better off planning Snowbasin instead? I’ve got the right car/tires.

Road closure to PowMow or Basin is extremely rare. That being said, the road to Basin is definitely lower grade and easier if it's super slick. The bigger worry with the Powder road is coming back down at the end of the day if it's still slick. You can always take the shuttle from the lot just north of the Valley Market (powder mtn.).
