UDOT didn't consider this particular property because it was private, but evaluated several other similar ones nearby. They rejected all of them because they would create traffic congestion in residential areas that would be similar to what happens right now. This location would fail screening for the same reason. I doubt it matters, though. If they wanted this proposal to be seriously considered they're about a year late.

As for lift capacity, until I see an official statement from Dopplymeyer that they can build a 4,000 ppl/hr, 8-mile gondola I think it's a bullshit number. Whistler P2P moves the same amount of people but is less than 1/3 of the length, it doesn't add up.

How many people ski/ride LCC on a high volume (lets say typical 12/26) holiday? Isn't 4000 ppl/hr. overkill.
I think that I would support just about any plan that makes LCC carbon emission free. (wax filled Pipe Dream)

I understand the goal of carbon free but bang for your buck tells me that spending money for that reason in LCC makes no sense. They use the peak number of 7000 vehicles which is holidays, weekend pow days and Octoberfest weekends. Weekdays non ski season there are a few hundred at the most. 7000 vehicles is 30 minutes on I-15 everyday of the week.

Happy Fourth of July! Twas a great season! Today was my 21st month of skiing in a row. we'll see if I can get past that mark, but has been fun pretending to be a TAYer for the last year. Great turns were had for 'Merica!

Any word if Alta is going to take passes off sale in the near future like Brighton is doing today?

^Nice work Brutah! Im sure you can make it a few more months.

Trail ran the Pfieff and White Baldy loop and saw that the Timp Glacier looks decent... may have to make a foray up there for myself!

    "Innovative option". Snort.

Wonder if La Caille will cater to dirtbags waiting in line for the gondi. I bet their female staff will be a major hit with the ski crow but it's gonna tough for these ladies to sport the outfit outside in the winter. Can't wait to get attacked by a peacock while waiting in line...

Except that Le Caille has been a problem for over a decade. It sold in 2011 for $10mil. Maybe, the owners are happy to unload it, peacocks, dirndls and all

I have never eaten there, either. I think that it would be fun. Right now, the driveway is so narrow, that a pick-up can barely get thru.

lol. the chance to get attacked by a stray bird before a canyon-priced dinner sounds almost too good!

I thi mk saying it sold is underplaying that story. Owner killed his wife then himself, then la caille sold. Solid wedding venue, went to a few there including my brother's first wedding. girl I knew that worked there said they grew bud in the greenhouse. I thought the peacocks running around the place was pretty cool, but I'm a bird guy.

The bird and this gondi project got to the table late and have been pushing it hard. We'll see if that dumb idea gets any traction, but kinda seems a little late to the table

Highly unlikely it goes anywhere. UDOT would have to redo the EIS.

Did they say what the garage capacity would be? Typical parking structures are about $30,000 a stall less site acquisition costs.

1000 stalls at 9400 S and Highland, 1500 at the gravel pit. And Gondolaworks still has a chance. We are commenting on the current selection of alternatives and a new concept can still be evaluated via the screening criteria. As DTM mentioned, it's up against the congestion issue on Wasatch. Lots of angle stations to avoid travel over homes which would make it more expensive. It wouldn't usurp the Lcc park and ride as the current gondola alternative does so that's good for the trail access and use of that lot by dispersed rec users.

It's worth listening to one of the public meeting recordings. Majority of the time is spent answering questions after the initial summary. Lots of details discussed such as the maximum of 8% of Lcc traffic coming over Parley's.

The La Caille gondola included a parking garage on site, how many stalls in that structure?

They don't specify on the website. Based on the drawings and renderings (5 level garage), looks to be around 1000.

I bet the public/private aspect of funding a gondola alternative looks good to our legislators.

Here is a screenshot of a presentation on the gondola that was shared with me about parking capacity. Wish I was able to share the full pdf with you all, though there's not much extra in there....
