That one and the one below Alta that said season's over were hard to stomach even for someone who doesn't ride lifts. Especially with the glorious weather and mad amounts of snow...

That's rough. I haven't actually been up LCC since I got back to town Sunday. Picking up extra shifts at work to try and relieve coworkers that are suddenly trying to figure out childcare or helping elderly family. Never in my wildest dreams would you convince me I'd be picking up OT in March.

But hey, we live in a damn good place and let's not forget this. This may be a re-post, but fuck it, this post could use some stoke.

right side up, maybe 6" above 8k' or so in mill creek, guessing the cottonwoods did better. you could feel the bottom at times but it sure beats what we've been skiing...

Here's a photo drop from the last week or so. My buddy Kyle came into town from spokane and needless to say that we got some skiing in. By the end of the weekend we were calling each other corona brothers haha.

He arrived on wednesday around 9 am. After driving to my house and eating some breakfast, we decided to do a quick wolvy lap. Snow was still pretty nice and we got a line snagged from us so it was a nice intro for my buddy.

We just did one lap as we were planning to drive up to jackson to ski in GTNP. Fortunately, a few buddies that live there hit me up right as I was about to pull out of the driveway to report that the wind had fucked things up in the alpine and trying to ski any of the tetons would be a bold move. We bailed and moved onto to plan B: Broads Fork.

I love broads. has them alpine feels. We skied an east face variation off the east twin, found great snow.

Then because I was still itching to get out of town, I talked my buddy into heading out to wendover to try our hand at pilot peak. I had to work on thursday so we rolled out in the afternoon and hit dirt roads at dusk. We were meeting friends at an area just north of the normal trailhead so we relied on google for navigation. this was our downfall as google decided some random "dirt" road was a good idea because it would save us a few miles. It was some sweet brown pow until it wasn't and then we were stuck in the mud. Luckily we got stuck about 200 yards from someone else and at 1 am a tow truck showed up to pull him out. around 3 am we were back on pavement, slept for a few hours and then drove home. Kyle went to ski at the resorts as I scored him a pass for the weekend and I worked. Here is a picture of Pilot at sunset.

Saturday we flipped a coin on whether to resort ski it or go for a walk. At the time I was leaning towards go for a walk but in hindsight, it would have been nice to use my ikon pass one more time. We walked up porter...

With high winds forecasted for sunday and resorts closing down, we decided to head back up mill creek. This time to gobblers knob.

kyle almost lost his ski off the summit, luckily it got caught in a tree.

Kyle was planning to fly out Monday night, but with the pandemic. He decided to rent a car and drive home, which was a bummer because I had a good day lined up for monday. He gave me his blessing and hit the road, I hit the skinner....

Coalpit wasn't quite as good as north faces in mill creek, but it was still good!

Despite carrying a rope, we decided to skip the coalpit gulch exit and skinned back over the ridge into hogum.... Skied a shot I called the "skinless couloir" back in the day as this was our bail on a failed needle attempt when my buddy decided not to bring skins up the Y en route to south thunder mountain.

I wonder how many times this shot and the few other lines that go off the ridge have been skied because people under-estimate the length of that hoof from the top of the Y. Without skins I imagine it's downright impossible!

^that's awesome, love reading these reports

Got out for a bit midday today and found some surprisingly really good turns (9300', N facing). I'm usually a one-and-doner but went back for 2nds and 3rds today.

Surprisingly deep. Elevation matters though. 2” of pretty damp snow at the WP lot. 10” of light snow on top of Rainbow. Not bonding very well at all to E faces but just sluffing, no slabs.

I had a friend post this in NYC but if anyone in SLC needs work done on their bicycles to get around/to the store/for a little excercise, let me know. I'd be happy to do whatever I can to get it up and running for you. This is not a free tune up on your MTB for the season, but if you have a bike that has been sitting for a bit, and you just want to go pedal around for some air, let me know. I will not accept payment for the services.

Word is that Alta and Solitude have convinced external powers to allow uphill traffic beginning tomorrow.
Teardown was done on Tuesday, but the convincing part took a couple more days.
Closure will be used when control work is needed to protect infrastructure.
The two areas have volunteered the WBR services of their ski patrols to rescue others in need both in and out of ski area boundaries.
Seems like Alta and Solitude recognize what they can do to promote outdoor therapy during these strange times.
Thank them and help with social distancing in parking lots...
this appears necessary for the external powers to be satisfied.
Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.

I really don't get peoples desire to tour at closed ski resorts. It's great if that's where everyone ends up though.

It's often safer and for many known.
