    Y Not Warning

I heard through the grapevine today that the rappel anchor in the Y Not Couloir has been hammered flat and useless and the last 30 ft of approach is clear ice. If you head that way, might want to bring a 60m rope as there is a higher tree that can be used as an anchor. I hope there is a better explanation for than than someone deliberately hammering it.

Haven’t seen it but also heard about it.

    Yesterday NW Pfeif.

4:30 put in at White Pine. Cold start & Beautiful sky. Four hours to topping out via Maybird.

Rapped from the top. Someone had left a sling on the top. I added a locking ‘biner to the collection. Call me out on poor LNT or use it. Certainly not redundant. Two 30m ropes tied together.

Mixed bag of breakable wind crust, supportable wind board, and a knife hard rime crust. It slid in the last avy cycle.

Upper snowfield skied a little more consistently than the lower.

Rappelling with skis on is difficult and dumb.

Exited Hogum skiers right of the waterfall. Good place to cross where the Quarry bike trail splits right below the ruins. Take out as Lisa Falls.

When we pioneered the Y Not in the mid 80's there was one piton at the lip courtesy of Mugs the summer before.
Next time back it was hammered useless, as have other anchors been over the years.
That rap station is a magnet for rockfall, not vandalism.
Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.

Traffic backed up all over the place for no new snow or terrain and somewhat mediocre weather... welcome to the new normal for a Saturday. I think I'm gonna call an audible and head to the Oquirrhs for some peace and quiet.Click image for larger version.

Yeah, I’m sure it would be nice if LCC traffic issues didn’t exist. Whether one blames it on Ikon or a litany of other things....LCC traffic problems seem to be the new norm. So, doesn’t anyone who is at 210 and Wasatch at 8:37 on a Saturday morning deserve what traffic they get?

What time is typical to be past that point these days to avoid that shit show?

Ikon isn’t blacked out and traffic is worse, interesting...

No doubt Ikon makes the traffic worse...but are you saying that there were no traffic problems pre-Ikon, or on Ikon blackout days? My point was, whatever the reason for the traffic problems, if you are just hitting LCC road at 8:30 you are kind of asking for trouble, no?

Ikon blackout days have seen much less traffic in LCC yes.

Traffic has been a problem in LCC for a long time, it’s noticeably worse with Ikon.

I never saw or heard of a 3 hour tram line before Ikon, I’ve seen them more than once since Ikon.

Is the comma, chute, the most overhyped chute, in LCC?
I never knew a 400-foot chute, could carry so much allure. Anyways, I hope everyone that wanted to ski it, got to ski.

Here's some stoke from yesterday to counter the traffic complainin'.

Got on top of the Wasatch's highpoint with some of Alta's finest. First time I had skied from the very top so that was neat. No lines, people or traffic unless you count driving through happy valley in the evening rush hour which always sucks even before the ikon

Good gawd, why would someone wait in a three hour tram line? I guess you should hope for that more, let all the Ikonogapers waste their time there? Like the recent Vail Blue Sky Chair 5 debacle, I wonder if a 3 hour tram line is the result of extenuating circumstances, or is that a normal thing people are just stoopid enough to wait in?

I get your point and I agreed, Ikon makes what can be bad traffic up LCC worse. But we know this, so, as much as it sucks, I’d rather leave early than get stuck in the traffic and complain.

chair 5 at vail isn't a blue sky basin chair, its a back bowls chair and its the last chair to get out of the back bowls. That is, once you are down there you can't go anywhere but up that chair and you have to ride it to get back to the base. If you ski pass all the other back bowl/blue sky chairlifts, you end up at chair 5. Those people were stuck down there.

At least at the bird there are other options than just the tram.....

If you're not complainin' about something, do you even ski LCC?

I resent that. But here's some stoke from the other day up a canyon that's not LCC, because I'm stuck at work for another hour and I'm bored.

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS and ASSORTED DRIVAL 19-20

Went to White Pine with everyone else today. But I didn’t see anyone else trying to climb the west ridge of White Baldy. And yes, I know why.

Fully agree and don’t really get the hype. Skied it before and from what I recall it’s a whole lot of traversing for a little vert. Maybe it’s an Alta thing.

Was Pat in your nebo crew? Had beers with him tonight and he said he had just skied it
