Alta just tweeted that they and Snowbird do not plan on opening today. Anyone know the last time Alta was closed two days in a row?

I think it happened in 05-06. There were some monster avalanches that year. Perlas slid to the angle station and East castle went massive on the same day. Both were the 2 biggest slides in Alta ski operation history. Specifically remember it being too deep to ski that day. Actually walking downhill with skis on. That too was a wet storm

Buddy and I are at solitude. Heard about the closure while we drove past big, so just decided to head up this way. Gonna be a junkshow here I'm sure...and I think some wind holds too

"Being a very early start, the UAC dawn patrol forecast was not on the phone lines when I started driving so we did not have that added resource for wind/snow transport knowledge. "
This statement is surprising given the resources at our disposal in the Wasatch such as the wind information and snow info found here: https://utahavalanchecenter.org/48hr-weather-charts

Very dense snow with howling winds from the NW. The snow density is more like an atmospheric river off the pacific, what gives?

I have seen 10' high debris on the edge of Main Street skiers left of the groomed after the 90 degree turn. But sliding all the way to Taint and Biltz is unbelievable. My guess is limited terrain tomorrow but I'm going even if its just to take pictures.

Twice as much, 10x for this storm vs 5x average for this time of year, orographic enhancement. Through Friday morning Salt Lake saw 0.38in water equivalent while Alta saw ~5in but the Cottonwoods weather modeling system isn't yet high resolution enough to explain why high variations sometimes occur. Better, higher resolution, spatially detailed forecasting systems like those used in Europe would help explain/forecast these events.

If someone has a trail map and could highlight the length of these slides, that would be cool. Having trouble picturing it.

Get a map. Find main and find taint and blitz. It's huge.

3-5 feet of debris and branches inside of a house in tfw’s neighborhood. Everyone is ok, but shit is getting real.

Just want to go on record that when I told people that me going to the beach in February would cause the biggest storm in a decade, this isn't what I had in mind.
Everyone stay safe out there, but sending extra good vibes for all you mountain ops and patrol folks.

I'm on my lunchbreak looking over the valley and cant fucken fathom what's going on up there. It's just another gray day down here in the drizzzle n moes with cloud level sitting at the top of the crows feet. I'd like to get up there to ski this weekend but feel selfish asking anything more outta the team. Be safe TFWs and Altacoups and all yall!
