The bus system doesn't work now because of parking. Buses would also make it possible to have BC access drop off points as well. And buses can adapt to the fact that this issue doesn't exist a huge chunk of the year. Scale back buses during weekdays and in summer. Seems way more cost effective.
I agree that the gondola solution doesn't really solve the problem. I've come to the admittedly selfish conclusion that the issue comes down to a simple mismatch of supply and demand for powder skiing.

The road is the current bottle neck. Fix that, and suddenly there will be another bottle neck (parking, lodge space, lift lines)...but with more people and a significantly deteriorated skiing experience.

Like I said, this is a selfish opinion, but if you are strategic with how you deal with the road constraints, those issues actually help preserve the skiing product. I'd rather get up at 4:45 on powder days and be able to ski a little powder than deal with a Collins and Wildcat line that are perpetually merged together in total gridlock.

That's an interesting opinion that I agree with. However, what really sucks is the red snakes that frequently develop on non-pow weekends now. Again, they can be avoided, but they are annoying.

Sorry not conditions related but didn’t want to start a new thread - my brother is heading out in a few weeks to SLC and I’m trying to guide him on where to get any form of discounts on lift tix...been a few years since I’ve been out there and my usual methods of scoring cheap tix have all seems to dry up or be non existent anymore post epic/ikon/etc etc. Do any of the shops still do the discount Tix? What about salt lake superpass? Looking to ski 3 days - not picky on where. Anyone got any suggestions to not pay window ?

There are a few guys on KSL selling off individual days from a 10-day card for $80ish each. I've used these before for visiting friends and it works well.

    Example: http://www.ksl.com/classifieds/listing/58434360

The superpass works out to $110 a day and you have to start with 3 days, so it's not a terrible option.

You can also buy tickets online in advance and usually save 5-20% off window prices at most of the ski resorts. OR if you know anyone with an Ikon or Epic pass, they have some friends/family passes which save 25% off or something like that. OR you can try your hand at the KSL market but it may be more difficult if you're not in the Utah.

OK thanks for the info - not easy these days to get cheap tix. I believe the SL Superpass used to be way cheaper, I'm talking like 2008-2010 timeframe I was out there more often...averaged like $50-75/day between the deals I scraped up off craigslist, etc...guess those days are over mostly with all these multi resort passes now

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

You can buy discount lift tix via this link, and all proceeds support the Utah Avalanche Center: https://utahavalanchecenter.org/lift-ticket-donations

They range from $82 for Soli to $110 for Alta or Bird.

Interesting the detail noted in the forecast, but nothing on the avalanche observation page.

Yesterday, a skier found a hard wind slab that broke around him/her 1-3' deep and 175' wide. They were caught and carried. They deployed their airbag and was buried up to their armpit in debris. No injuries. The slope angle was measured at 31° degrees.

It's amazing how a few flakes can totally refresh things...poked around dry fork and rocky point and found some good snow. Surfy low angle skiing.

Was great to finally meet the legendary tfw today in front of GMD. My 1 year old daughter loves Tula!

Merry Christmas! Snow was a bit dense but the Bird skied great this am. Lots of sharks still lurking though. I've been really bad about taking pictures recently but I'm going to try to be better!

Thumbs up to UPD for turning 2WD vehicles around at the mouth of LCC. They were not inspecting just turning around obvious offenders.

Currently pretty empty at Alta, but maybe everyone is just in for lunch.

Just skied a South face Superior. Had better.
