As last year, so far WA Pass not getting as much love as central Cascades, GP area and western NCNP. Too early to say what it'll all mean for May/June touring and summer mountaineering, of course. Temps and sun in April, May and June are historically as important as snowfall in March and April.
WA Pass total snow sensor hasn't been working correctly for a while. It's been snowing very consistently (as opposed to raining) over there and the reported number keeps staying around 84". This storm should deliver at least foot at the Pass level by Sunday. And I plan to smash as much of it as I possibly can. The folks who have heli seats booked on Sunday are in for an all time experience.

Who cares if it's open tmw?
That doesn't look too good for the base.

I'd like to state my uninformed opinion as fact on this topic:

Crystal will for sure open tomorrow (unless CMB gets hit with a mudslide). And it will snow enough schmoo to cover any crust above 5000'.

I would doubt that they've finished sliding yet.

Apparently GW is all hands to the pumps. and sand bags. County and volunteers digging out culverts and a bunch of properties in CRR flooded. Mine is dry and so far 10 acres of hillside above us has remained where it's supposed to be.

IMHO even if 410 open tmw it will be shit skiing. Not worth the bus fare.

    Thanks man.

    Latest 410 picture

Aprt from anything else county, WSDOT, law enforcement and FD won't want to have to deal with the traffic while they continue cleanup.

GW residents being allowed through in convoy.

I know that WA Pass telemetry is suspect, which is why I omitted any mention of it and instead mentioned the Rainy Pass (Snotel) telemetry data, which currently shows only 77", down from 82" five days ago.

Rainier is bullseyed by this WNW flow. I wonder how the burn zone is faring?

Look at the terrain enhancement and shadowing... wow. Strong rainshadow in the central and south Sound behind the Olympics, convergence on the high country around Rainier, bone dry in the lower Yakima, and then huge precip again in the Blues.

    !!!
