No chatter about the three skiers buried above Skyline lake this weekend? Same party.

I saw some mention of it on the Turns-all-year facebook group. Sounded like 2 full burials who were able to clear their airspaces and one partial. The guy partially buried was able to dig himself out and then dig out his buddies. They estimated total burial time was around 45 minutes.

It was pretty hard to call my dad and tell him I'm gay... for skis!

The golf course edged exceptionally well this evening, lit by a beautiful alpenglow transitioning to a sparkling, clear winter night sky. I arced turns across the bountiful, well-kempt fairways, testing my own abilities as much as my equipment's. Skied my first ungroomed, lightly bumped black run since I was a teenager (although, SVS did proclaim, "There aren't any blacks at West") and was railing hot laps on an empty Wildside by closing bell.

Fuck, I think I've done found something that makes the mediocrity south of I-90 fun again

5 year old skied Debbie's under Armstrong last night. She had a couple sit downs and a couple " I don't think I can do it" moments
But I was proud of her and she was proud of herself.
Skiing at West has kind of run its course for us seeing how there's nothing that makes her turn there and she can go from the top to the bottom without falling every time so I figured it was time for a little Alpental love

M&Ms my friend. Every 5 turns on a run = 1 M&M on chairlift. Limits the amount of power-wedge straight-lining my kids tried when they were new. She will be carving slalom turns in no time

The power wedge is ugly, but it does work. I realized last night just how much I've taken the ability to sideslip on a tray for granted. I also realized that the hill I grew-up skiing didn't offer anything steeper than Triple 60 does, so this guy's got quite a bit more learning ahead of him before he's ready for l'Internationale.

Also, putting it out there, this weekend's IFSA Junior Freeride comp beneath the padded seats could use a few more volunteers. If you're interested, you can find the details and sign-up here: https://thedriven.net/event.vol_reg_...SjJxu_Y6076ARw

Nice work. Way to start em young.

Speaking of kids and Alpental, I took my almost 10 year old for a daddy daughter date to Alpental on Tuesday night. It was so great to see the payoff of all of those days when she was little. She's genuinely fun to ski with and she was pushing me to take "just one more run" at the end of the night.

She was pretty impressed by the waterfall.

Waterfall has grown since Jan 21st... Almost down to the snow now. Guess the rain was good for something.

As much as I hate weekend skiing, Saturday seems to be my ski day of choice. I may be aiming for Sunday as well, but this ski weekend is testing my dedication to the sport with just Saturday.

I had fun ripping groomers last Thursday, so I'm hoping for some soft off piste turns this weekend.

Awesome night at Alpental tonight. Fast groomers and chalky soft snow off groomed. Whole mountain has filled back in. Hopefully we can keep the atmospheric rivers away for a bit.
