Last Saturday up at Stevens we were turned away for uphill skiing for reasons of "tearing down" and cats on the mountain...said they should be done by Tuesday...been calling the uphill hotline but it hasn't been updated since last Saturday. Webcams turned off so cant see if the light is flashing on the clock tower.

Anyone have any success this week with getting some turns in up at Stevens or are the Vail cops still on guard.

Still closed as of yesterday. Don't expect vail to open it up. Crystal or Snoqualmie are your best bets.

    Yes.

Better to just go, solo or very distant, and not talk about it.

    Mental health is important too.

    From Steven's pass website

Uphill travel closed: Safety is paramount for us here at Stevens Pass, which is why we’ve made the decision to prohibit uphill travel and snowmobiling in our permit area during this unprecedented time. This decision was made with guidance from local, state, and federal regulators, as well as Governor Jay Inslee’s order to stay at home. Due to the ongoing situation, all resources are focused on stemming the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and are unavailable for any on-mountain rescues or injuries. Please respect our decision to prohibit uphill travel. Continue to check our hotline (206-812-7847) for the most up to date information and remember if the yellow light on the clock-tower if flashing, we are closed to uphill traffic.

I don’t see how you can just close the backcountry. Let people make their own fucking decision. Jogging around Seattle is going to put me in contact with way more people than backcountry skiing.

It's a number thing: there's some probability that someone will get hurt and need hospitalization or SAR assistance or some other resource.

Either you count, or you don't.

Right now, especially after this year, I'd love to go. But I count.
