Patience. It's only November 16. A lot can change in short order. I've only skied here for 1.25 seasons and I've already seen a 6+ foot week at Alpental. Give it till the end of November before you start wringing your hands over the lack of snow.

I will buy skis till it snows in the West. That is my pledge to Ullr. I'm at 5 looking at 6 for the weekend.

I moved here in summer 2005. That year Baker opened Veteran’s Day. Everyone said I was a fool for making the trek to the snowy dead end and that I would destroy my gear. That was the best opening day ever. I skied thigh to waist deep pow all day with very little company. Not a scratch on my Volkl White Wizards at the end of the day.

Sure miss “the good ole’ days...”

This isn't my first rodeo. Any skier worth their salt knows that patience and preparation are invaluable. Get all your gear dialed, go the gym, ski the WROD if you have one locally, get those nagging injuries sorted out, etc. Then when it does snow, you're ready to hit the ground running. We can't control when it starts or stops snowing (yet ), but we are in control of how much of that window we capitalize on, instead of using half of it to ski ourselves into shape.

And that's not coming from a holier-than-thou, self-righteous perspective; anyone who's met me knows I'm the furthest thing from a gym rat. I struggled a bit with getting motivated for the upcoming season myself, so I did what any good American would do and spent a few grand on a week of ski touring in BC to light a fire under my ass. Seems to be working.

Yeah, yeah, you know that post was tongue in cheek... The thing that's making me laugh now is that you chose my post to quote and make this response too.

Caught TGR’s “Roadless” last night in North Bend. Solid flick. I like the human powered films, and Jeremy Jones has that aspect dialed. I also appreciate a ski movie that is focused on skiing/goals that us mere mortals can achieve.

Looks like snow levels finally have a chance of coming down after today. Fingers crossed!

52F & rain yesterday at 2800', all the peaks incl. Chikamin were bare again this morning. The silver lining? It sounds like the Southern Resort will be offering an Ikonic view of Mt. Rainier this weekend and the ability to stand beneath the umbrella and spectate their limited snowmaking:

Meanwhile, north of the border, the other Vail resort in our region is remaining optimistic to have something open for American Turkey Day but they've been remarkably mum about that so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Even the Windy Hill isn't looking promising for the next few weeks...

Scenic Gondola rides to 6800ft November 28th might be the most depressing thing yet.

    Weekend Options by preference
    1. Hike for some turns
    2. Veg out and watch football
    3. Whore out on American Consumerism
    4. Drive two hours to have a chance to win an Ikon hat in a Gondola and spend $60 on ok food with a view of said Gondola?

Wasn’t the whole point of all that snowmaking to avoid this.
