Snow conditions at the big umbrella gave a taste of everything. With the fresh layer of 3-6 inches of soft and surprisingly dry snow i managed to squeek in a handful of untracked powder runs before the snow quickly turned into nasty chunder, dust on icey crust with the dust being pushed into piles, making even blue mogul fields unappetizing. Even some of my later in the day lines hidden by the shade became shit.

Overall, fun successful day, just sucks the previous week and the future forecast are not what i call exciting.

Anyone at Stevens today? Did it get parked out, and if so about when? Thanks!

What was the sketch? Iced up rope slipping?

Freezing rain, ice on haul rope.
We were at the base of 2 for about 20 minutes first thing, patrol cycled through randomly and it seemed to run fine.
It wasn't until they started loading public that enough load was put on the system (my guess) to cause it to jerk and stutter. To their credit, lift ops were on it pretty quick, they stopped loading people and ran it slow till we were all safetly off, then they shut it down until the temps came up to melt the ice off (apparently - see Phatty's post above) and re-open.

I was on the chair with an old timer the other day. He was telling me about the really steep terrain they have at Hyak. Once you get to the top it’s skier’s right down the backside. I forget what they call it but it is the steepest inbounds run in the U.S.

Laying the first trench down Serpentine this evening by headlamp didn't suck. Beat the rain by a handful of minutes, best of luck to anyone trying to ski at Snoqualmonix tomorrow

When you get off east peak follow the rope high skiers right then ski down.

I do find it ironic that the most renowned run at Alpental is named for a song whose message is diametrically opposed to the ideology espoused the Randian neoliberal scum that comprises such a large segment of the population of the region.

I see they've changed the name in recent years to try to distance themselves from the reference. Sad. I'll always spell it with the "e."

challenge mode: beginning at the top of chair 2, sing it on-key and in-tempo, continue through the outrun without stopping, repeat twice, then seize the means of production

Hyak has been offering nice debris-free turns with good grooming and soft gaunch off-piste
