Heading to Istanbul in 8 days - with family - bad idea?

We travel, a lot. a few months ago we decided to check out Istanbul, one of the few great cities Miss Frozen and I haven't been to. Then all hell broke out. Would you all still go? Financially it wont be to big a hit, but we REALLY want to check it out, and it doesn't appear that things are going to get better for some time, go now while still contained or bail bail bail?

I'd PM Cono Este just before you leave he'll be able to let you know if there war has started.. or ended.

(seriously - I doubt it'll be a problem at all)

From a personal safety standpoint it should be fine. From a supporting a repressive regime with tourism dollars standpoint...well that's up to you.

If the kids misbehave on the trip, you could trade them for a fine woven rug.

meh, i pay taxes here, so im already supporting a repressive regime. I travel alot these days, and the people I see and meet remind me that Government is not the people, people are usually really awesome everywhere. Of course I know you know that too.

I'm going to Istanbul early next month for a week. I'm not concerned about safety there. Turkish peeps are generally pretty chill and welcoming. If they're not, I'll go all Dracula on their asses.

Well fortunately it’s about as far from Syria as possible, so you have that going for you. Which is nice.

Ha, good point. It doesn't seem like public safety is much more of a concern now than at any point in the last several years. Turkey has had some terror attacks in the last few years, but that could happen anywhere, including right here in the freedom and gun loving US of A.

In your shoes I would go. Turkish people are some of the warmest and friendliest towards tourists of anywhere I've ever been and their currency is on sale right now. Enjoy the well-socialized and vaccinated street dogs, they were seriously a highlight of our trip.

It says reconsider travel to Batman province. Why even go at this point.

There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air
