Heading to Istanbul in 8 days - with family - bad idea?

In your shoes I would go. Turkish people are some of the warmest and friendliest towards tourists of anywhere I've ever been and their currency is on sale right now. Enjoy the well-socialized and vaccinated street dogs, they were seriously a highlight of our trip.

Leave your “Kiss me, I’m Kurdish” shirt at home, though.

Or make a bunch of "MIGA" hats and wear those proudly. Don't know what color they ought to be, however.

Just make sure you’re not connecting through Detroit and you will be safe.

Oh, and in case you weren't aware, Fred, as an American, a visa will be required to visit Turkey. You may apply online- the process if fairly painless and quick.

Co-worker was in Istanbul earlier this year. No issues. You never know though. You might get lucky and be involved in a terrorist attack. Enjoy the sweet tea.

Make sure you are on good terms with MBS.

I am sure your trip will be wonderful and safe. I envy the food options you will have. I would just do some research about the ares you plan to visit and ensure your family has a plan in the event something unexpected goes down. Vary your pattern of movement and be unpredictable in your routine. Keep your eyes open and do your best to blend in.
