I'm looking at a 2017 giant glory that would need a shock replacement, does anyone know the shock size for this bike? I've searched but can't find the spacing. I'm guessing its 9.5x3.0 but I'm not sure.

Just make sure you test frame clearance.

Depends on the bike. The extra stroke may or may not mean that linkage parts run into each other, or the shock hits part of the frame. Rear tire buzzing the seat tube is also possible.

Take the shock off, and squish the rear suspension. See if you can get to 5.5" between the shock bolts before something goes smash.

I said fuck it and bought the Grip 2 damper + all needed oils + new seals for the 36 instead of going to an all new 38. It's about 1/3 the cost.

How do I figure out what freehub standard I have? I have a 2019 Transition Patrol my wife bought me as a surprise gift - she had the drivetrain switched to XT 11 speed and it's on a Stans S1 Neo hub

The cassette is Shimano CS-M8000.

I need to buy some rims and hubs that aren't made of cheese - but want to know if I need HG or micro-spline freehub. Thanks!

Hg. You might want to buy a hub thats easily future proof. A lot are nowadays. I like hope. Super ez to swap the freehub body when necessary. Decent price, run forever, ez to rebuild and find parts. Chainreaction has complete hope wheels at a great price if there is stock currently. Im really liking the design of microspline. Not totally dold on 12 spd yet. I like the range but skeptical of chain and cassette longevity. I think we'll see wide range cassettes for microspline in 11 and possibly 10 or 9 speed soon

Cassette model. The 12 speed XT cassette (M8100) is MS. Earlier models are HG.

There is a local that is building DT Ex511 rims up with Hope Pro4 hubs - I need something that can take a beating and remain reliable (I'm 190lbs and a somewhat fast but not smart/smooth rider on techy jank)

I'm a strong climber so wheel weight is less of a concern vs reliability and durability.

He's offering "Sapim /dt swiss spokes. Straight or double butted."

would this be a good setup you think for what my priorities are?

511 is a great rim. Youre builder has u covered. I think youll be fine with dbl butted. I prefer dt over sapim but others may have more experience w sapim

To be clear, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me who’s stripped the threads. With my luck and skills when I do wreck something on the new bike it will be of much higher consequence.

Good to know about the longer bolt, i’ll give that a try first.

just to follow up on this: went to the store today and got M3x10 and M3x12 screws. 12mm bottoms out before tightening the cable guide. 10mm works and there were more threads engaging than I expected. Was able to put a moderate amount of torque without stripping so I’m pretty hopeful it’s going to hold. Thanks for the tip Dee!

Not sure why the forks don’t just come with the slightly the longer screw from the factory if they’re tapping to that depth anyway.

Dammit, cracked another Light Bicycle rim yesterday, I just rebuilt it two weeks ago. Proper tire pressure, just a little too smashy-smashy down Phillips Canyon. Not sure whether to get a crash replacement ‘DH’ version, or move on to something with a warranty...

I rode the same set of 27.5 25mm OG LB’s for 7 years… without issue. Maybe I got lucky. I say get a crash replacement….

However, I do really like my current WAO Unions….
