Screwing around waiting I was ripping up some piles of dirt a loader had pushed and I came down a slammed my rotor, but didn't know. Start riding and hear a noise, so I'm looking down and continue to ride trying to see whats happening and I finally stop after idk 50 yards or less and this is what happened.
I'm gonna keep riding it. Filed down the rotor properly after the trailside rock smash/file and it's braking fine. I'll just replace everything at once when it's time.

34.9 standard pretty much proved that shims work seamlessly.
Simultaneously, shims proved that the 34.9 seatpost standard isn’t necessary.

Shims work, but also increase your chances of having to deal with a slipping and/or creaking seatpost.

Do XTR QR skewers clear lawyer tabs without having to adjust the threaded end? Differences between vintages other than cosmetics? I would most likely be looking at 900-950 unless a set of 9000 appears for a good price.

How lazy of a bleed can I get away with when simply transferring a rear brake from one bike to another? Swapping some Codes out for Dominions and both brakes are very recently bled with clean fluid, but I'll obviously be introducing air into the system when cutting the hoses. I have always done a full bleed in the past but wondering if I can avoid the hassle and just find a quick way to get the air out without exchanging all the fluid

I wouldn't do a full bleed, but I'd attach 2 syringes and push a bit of fluid up from the caliper until the air was out.
You could maybe just do a syringe at the lever and pull a vacuum and flick the lever a bit. Might work. Might not. Doing a second syringe at the caliper doesn't take much extra time though.

well you could do a proper bleed cuz it will be less work in the long run than having to set up again if a chicken shit bleed doesnt work
but its rather popular to do the chicken shit job then skip the proper bleed when it doesnt work rant & complain and use it for an excuse to buy new brakesLast edited by XXX-er; 11-21-2024 at 10:45 AM.

Bit of a reach back in the archives, but anyone know of a modern dropper lever w extra long pull? Have an old Fox DOSS dropper but missing the lever. The few remotes I’ve tried don’t seem to have enough cable pull. Don’t need the two position lever part as if it’s long enough should function for mid and low drop.
Would use a different dropper, but need an external for my casual riding son and this Doss laying around.

is there a yearly black friday deals thread to revive somewhere in SR? man feel like this year and past few years sales have been bordering on insane
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?
fuck that noise.
gmen.

New Dominions started out fantastic, ridden in slop, cleaned, now draggggging both front and rear. Is there a bedding-in process that needs to be completed? Something to adjust on the caliper side? Also, independent of the drag, I seem to have warped my rear rotor again after a pretty normal descent in ~6-7*C temps. User error? Or do some rotors just not handle heat/cool cycles well?

Answering my own question, two months later. No. I swapped in a new 2.0mm ZTTO 2-piece rotor and the gold pads are still howling. So much for that theory. Currently trying to buy some MTX Red label pads, but the 20% off coupon code they have on their home page isn't working. I'll give them a day to fix it and try again tomorrow.

Did you try to sand the surface of the pads clean after you changed rotors?
MTX suggests it and if the pads were messed up by the old rotors, they might carry that bad juju over to the new ones.

2.0mm rotors. Galfer or SRAM. But Galfer is stuck in the 203/223 scam, so it’s SRAM for me.
1) Fuck MTX Gold. Galfer pads for less noise.
2) Stop getting cheap rotors. There’s actual science that goes into hole patterns. SRAM and Galfer seem to have a better handle on it.

^^^ agreed with all of that. I've had decent luck with MTX reds, but have mostly switched to Galfer pads.

Was gonna say I like MTX red but always looking for more power. What compound Galfer pads are you guys running? The Pro seems like the obvious choice but curious about the ebike ones. Not riding an ebike myself though.

The Pro pads are really nice but wear out really fast, at least in the rear. The Ebike/purple pads probably offer 85% of the power of the Pro/green, but probably about 4x as much life. Pro front / Ebike rear is what I'd suggest for most people.

I've got Galfer Pros in my maguras. Good power and quiet. Haven't noticed them to wear especially fast, but I'm not doing much bike park riding with that bike.
