Ski Base Cleaner Question
So I typically purchase expensive products marketed for being a "base cleaner" as I do my own tuning and waxing. However, recently I met someone who told me to just use rubbing alcohol, can anyone confirm this wouldn't damage the ski?

It evaporates so fast I wouldn't think it would hurt much

I would worry about drying out your base using denatured alchohol but I guess if you just sprinkle it on and wipe it off you should be good if you wax in the same session. I use JG Juice and it works great when you get the tar crud in the late spring otherwise I just do a good hot-scrape and call it good.

For dirty spring crud or general maintenance or whatever, I'm a fan of hot scraping.
preparing for base welds and whatnot, I just use a little carb cleaner or paint thinner or goof off on a rag.

Every spring/summer we get some pretty bad sticky pollen layers that wreck the skiing glide. I started touring with a bottle of white gas in the pack and use the two part system of scrape base then clean the remains with white gas soaked rags. No long term effects on any of the bases I've used the system on over the past 20 years.
