Avalanche Canada cautioning that - "As always, accurate avalanche forecasts remains our priority. However, the early closure of many backcountry operations, in response to the COVID 19 pandemic, will soon affect our data stream. We are assessing this situation on a daily basis but are expecting an increase in our forecast uncertainty as these closures progress. Our Mountain Information Network (MIN) is going to become even more important than usual. We are actively encouraging all backcountry users to submit their observations. Even the most basic data will be helpful, so please consider posting to the MIN. We are also encouraging avalanche professionals to keep providing whatever data they have."

"Visitors may use front country and backcountry areas as well as accessible green spaces. Should Canadians decide to visit, they should remember that they are always responsible for their own safety. They should consult Parks Canada’s website to be prepared for their visit and be aware of any area closures. Search and rescue services may be limited."

Just saw Silver Star are advertising a deal on next season passes that expires very soon "The SilverStar My One Pass has amazing value and is currently cheaper than last year's Early Bird price! Available online only until April 5." Bet quite a few resorts will be looking for some quick cashflow.

Very weird that there are so many reports of heli-skiers testing positive for COVID 19. The count is now up to 5, all with different operations (although 3 Revelstoke based) so they probably didn't infect each other. Wonder if it is just that the well off people who can afford it are more likely to get tested and/or more likely to report it (some of them only got tested after leaving BC)? Would be worrying if you could extrapolate those numbers to all tourists that were here.
Almost makes me wonder if they were all dentists who went to that big dental conference in Vancouver

Parks Canada are closing parking lots and trails. Avalanche Canada ending avalanche forecasts and closing the Mountain Information Network.
At least the first half of the season was great.

It will put a crimp on some of our ongoing field operations, and of course will elevate our SAR team's consideration as we go into the late winter/spring season in the alpine. Lots of sledders still getting after it this week. 20cm+ fresh last night alone in the local hills. Stay safe people!

If you were a virus the easiest way to get to BC from Wuhan is to fly, so I would bet it was brought over by an air traveller, all those skiers flew to get there so it was spread by people who could afford to fly or knew someone who could afford to fly but I would bet Covid isnt that picky about how it gets around so now is really the time to not move around much or be in crowds

Nice looking zone. Chutes right off summits and burnt trees. What more is there?

Keeping the stoke alive! Should be a decent dusting tonight and relatively preserved until later in the week
